Update Cupra Born is more extensive than you might think

March 9, 2026

Design Cupra Born (2026)

Although the Cupra Born remains recognizable as Born, Cupra has modified several details. The familiar “sharknose” on the front remains and is still the central element of the front design. The sharply cut headlight units stand out immediately in this regard, partly due to the triangular light signature that is characteristic of the brand. Matrix LED lighting is available for the Born VZ. This allows the driver to drive with high beam without dazzling oncoming traffic by automatically adjusting the beam. In the grille, the copper-colored “blade” is a clear style feature, while so-called air curtains guide the airflow past the wheels, contributing to more efficient aerodynamics.

Rear

Changes have also been made at the rear. The bumper has been redesigned and features a larger diffuser. In addition, the tailgate has been modified and the taillights stand out with a three-dimensional pattern featuring the distinctive triangular Cupra design. The rear brand logo is now illuminated. A practical detail is that the door handles have also received lighting, making them easier to use in the dark. The updated Cupra Born comes standard on 19-inch alloy wheels in the Essential, Business and Performance versions. The sportier Born VZ gets 20-inch rims as standard. Also appearing in the color range is a new paint, Timanfaya Grey, a deep shade of gray that further emphasizes the sleek lines of the bodywork.

Interior Cupra Born

Inside, the biggest change is found in the digital cockpit. The instrument cluster grows from 5.3 inches to 10.25 inches, displaying information more clearly and conveniently. The infotainment system has also been updated. The central touchscreen measures 12.9 inches and runs on a new operating system based on Android. This gives drivers access to an app store with various applications, which can be installed directly in the system.

The multifunction sports steering wheel plays an important role in the operation of various functions. The steering wheel has physical buttons, and so-called satellite buttons are integrated in the 170 kW and 240 kW versions. Among other things, these allow the driver to set the degree of energy recovery and select a driving mode without using the infotainment screen.

Beautiful chairs

The seats in the updated Born come standard as sporty bucket seats. In the VZ version, CUP bucket seats are even available, which offer additional lateral support. The interior also features new door panels made of high-quality materials. Combined with copper-colored accents and ambient lighting, this creates an interior with a distinctive character. That ambient lighting also adapts to the selected driving mode. Practically speaking, minor improvements have also been made. There are now four separate buttons in the driver’s door for operating the windows, and additional vents for the climate control system have been added in the rear.

Cupra also pays attention to the use of sustainable materials in the Born. For example, the bucket seats are upholstered in Seaqual Yarn or Dinamica. The 3D structure of the dashboard consists of about 75 percent recycled materials.

One Pedal Driving

Technically, the updated Born introduces a number of new features. For example, the model now features One Pedal Driving. This allows the driver to both accelerate and brake with one pedal. When the pedal is released, the car automatically brakes and the energy released is recovered. This energy is stored in the high-voltage battery.

For sportier handling, the VZ and Endurance versions have launch control. In addition, Progressive Steering, ESC Sport and wider 235-millimeter tires contribute to a more direct driving experience. The driver can further customize the car’s character through various driving modes such as Range, Comfort, Individual and Cupra. In combination with Dynamic Chassis Control, fifteen different damping settings are available.

Cupra Born VZ

Within the model range, the Cupra Born VZ assumes the role of top-of-the-line version. This version features an electric motor with an output of 240 kW (326 hp) and torque of 545 Nm. With this, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and its top speed is 200 km/h. At the same time, the range according to the WLTP standard is over 600 kilometers.

Charging smartphones

New features have also been added in the area of convenience. Smartphones can be quickly charged via USB-C with up to 90 watts of power. Additionally, wireless charging is possible with an output of 15 watts and mobile devices are cooled in the process to prevent overheating. Rear connectors with an output of 45 watts are available. Also new is the Mobile Device Key. With this, the car can be unlocked and started via a smartphone. In total, up to four digital keys can be shared.

For music lovers, an audio system with Sennheiser technology is available. This system uses ten speakers and Contrabass technology for a more powerful soundstage. The so-called Interior Sound adapts to driving mode and speed, changing the sound experience in the car depending on driving conditions.

V2L function

In addition, Cupra introduces a V2L feature, or Vehicle-to-Load. With a special adapter, the car can supply electricity to external devices, such as e-bikes, laptops or portable speakers. For the first time, the Born can also be equipped with a tow bar for a bike carrier.

Driving assistance systems

On the safety front, the updated Born comes equipped with several driving assistance systems. Travel Assist 3.0 uses cloud data and can recognize traffic lights, speed bumps and crosswalks, among other things. Combined with adaptive cruise control and lane assist, the system helps keep the car in the center of the lane.

Crossroad Assist supports the driver when approaching intersections by providing warnings and automatic braking if necessary. Front Assist can now detect up to two vehicles in front at the same time and, if necessary, prepares the car for emergency braking. In doing so, the driver first receives visual, audible and tactile warnings. If the driver does not react, the system intervenes itself.

The Precrash system has also been further developed and now features a rear precrash function. In the event of an imminent collision, the system tightens the seat belts, closes the windows and panoramic roof, and activates the hazard lights. Systems such as Side & Exit Assist, Intelligent Park Assist, Light Assist and an enhanced Top View Camera are also available.

Market launch

The revamped Cupra Born was designed in Barcelona and will be produced at the Zwickau plant in Germany. The first examples are expected in the Netherlands at the end of May. Shortly before the market launch, Cupra will announce final specifications and prices.
