Top 25: these are the most popular individually imported cars

December 29, 2025

Golf and Polo remain undisputed import favorites

As in previous years, the Volkswagen Golf leads the list. In 2023, 10,610 units were imported individually, in 2024 that level remains almost the same with 10,473 cars. The Golf combines a broad engine range with high availability abroad, especially in Germany.

The Volkswagen Polo follows in second place. Although import numbers are lower than a few years ago, the model remains popular with 7,292 import cars in 2023 and 7,405 in 2024. Again, the ample supply of young used cars plays an important role.

SUVs are visibly gaining ground

Behind the traditional hatchbacks, the rise of SUVs and crossovers is particularly striking. The Volkswagen Tiguan records solid growth, reaching 5,716 imported units in 2024, up from 4,936 in 2023. The Volkswagen T-Roc shows a similar trend, rising to 5,289 cars.

Models such as the Ford Kuga, Volvo XC40, Volvo XC60 and BMW X5 also show clear growth rates in 2024. The popularity of imported SUVs is linked to higher new car prices and more attractive cross-border offerings.

Notable risers and new names

One of the most striking risers is the Lynk & Co 01. Whereas in 2022 the model hardly appeared in the import statistics, in 2024 the number of imports grows to 3,877 units. The end of many private-lease contracts abroad seems to be an important explanation here.

The Toyota Yaris Cross also shows strong growth, with 3,309 imported cars in 2024, up from 1,747 in 2023. This confirms the growing demand for compact crossovers.

Top 25 individually imported cars – 2023 and 2024

Below are the full top 25, focusing on the most recent two years:

Imports remain a structural part of the market

The figures make it clear that individual imports are not a niche, but a structural part of the Dutch car market. C-segment models and SUVs in particular benefit from the ample foreign supply. As long as price differences, delivery times and equipment levels remain, the import market will retain its appeal.
