Review – Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric (2025) – Reinvented.
What exactly is the new Renault Scenic car?
The new Renault Scenic is a slightly different kind of car than we are used to. The model line began in 1996 as a compact MPV version based on the Mégane, the brand’s mid-size model. It proved to be a success. Starting with the second model generation, the Scénic is much more of a model in its own right, although it remains technically related to the Mégane. All the while, the Scénic is the MPV alternative to the more traditional Mégane.
In 2024, we were introduced to the current, fifth-generation Renault Scenic – henceforth without a diaeresis on the ‘e’. This model also does things differently in other respects. It is still technically related to the Renault Megane, but is positioned above it rather than being a variant of it. Moreover, the Scenic is no longer a traditional MPV, but is more SUV-like. Still, it is “just” low on its wheels. It is somewhat reminiscent of the Renault Vel Satis (2001 – 2009). While that had an even slightly higher market position, it was also a higher model without being a true SUV.

Okay, but now what are the main competitors for the Renault Scenic?
The new Renault Scenic has moved to the upper end of the C-segment. There you will find, for example, the also French Peugeot e-3008. Then there are the VAG duo Skoda Enyaq and Volkswagen ID.4 and, of course, the Nissan Ariya, which is technically related to the Renault. Yes, all SUVs, because traditional MPVs are almost non-existent in Europe. Other competitors with an unusual body shape are the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (a kind of hatchback in SUV format) and the Kia EV6 (higher than a traditional liftback, but again not an SUV).

What does the interior of the new Renault Scenic offer?
Although the new Renault Scenic is no longer an MPV, it is still spacious inside. The boot holds 545 liters. This is even more than in the previous Renault Grand Scenic. With the rear seats folded down, the new model holds 1,670 liters. Furthermore, you also have plenty of leg and headroom on the rear seats. However, the middle seat of the back seat is a bit cramped. The only real criticism is the high floor. In the front this is compensated by the fact that you can stretch your legs far forward, but in the back you sit with your legs slightly raised and thus your upper legs are not supported. By the way, the new Scenic no longer comes with seven seats.
Furthermore, the interior consists of beautiful materials and you do not lack (luxury) amenities. For example, even the standard model already has keyless entry and start and dual-zone air conditioning. There is also always extensive infotainment with various functions and wireless smartphone connectivity. The system runs on Google software. So even if you don’t have your phone paired, it’s like operating a large tablet, including associated apps.

What versions and equipment does the Renault Scenic have?
The Renault Scenic is available in four trims: Evolution, Techno, Esprit Alpine and Iconic. ‘Base version’ Evolution already has 19-inch alloy wheels, full LED lighting, a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and extensive assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, Lane Keep Assist and rear parking sensors. The Techno adds driving modes and a slightly more luxurious trim including ambient lighting, plus adaptive headlights and a larger (12-inch) infotainment screen, among other features.
The Esprit Alpine mainly provides a bit more (visual) sportiness, with 20-inch rims, Alpine logos and suede upholstery, among other features. Things like a head-up display and steering wheel heater are also present. The most luxurious version is the Iconic, which includes a Harman Kardon audio system, faux leather upholstery, a 360-degree camera and automatic parking assistance.

What engines are available for the new Renault Scenic?
In terms of propulsion, the new Renault Scenic also does things differently from its predecessors. In fact, from now on, the car is always fully electrically powered. There is a choice of two powertrains: one with 125 kW (170 hp) and one with 160 kW (220 hp). Torque is 280 and 300 Nm, respectively. The more powerful version also has a larger battery: 80 versus 60 kWh (usable capacity). Depending on the version, you reach 100 km/h in 8.6 and 7.9 seconds. Top speeds are capped at 150 and 170 km/h.

How large is the range of the Renault Scenic?
Depending on the engine and battery variant chosen, the Renault Scenic has a range of 430 km (60 kWh) or 625 km (80 kWh). These are the theoretical WLTP values. The official average power consumption is almost the same for both models: 15.8 kWh/100 km for the smaller battery and 15.5 kWh/100 km for the larger one.
And in practice? We arrived at an average of 20.9 kWh/100 km with the larger battery. A significant difference. However, the context is important here: we drove mainly on the highway and with temperatures around freezing. Heating and other features were also just switched on. If we calculate the practical consumption, we arrive at just under 400 kilometers of winter practical kilometers. By the way, the on-board computer is very accurate in predicting the remaining range at your destination. Pretty nice.

And then when it is almost empty, how fast can it recharge?
With a regular AC charging station, the Renault Scenic has a maximum charging capacity of 22 kW. With a DC fast charger, it is 130 kW for the 60 kWh battery and 150 kW for the 80 kWh battery. For the smaller battery, assuming the full 22 kW, a charging time of three to five hours is specified, depending on the battery. Fast charging from 15-80% takes just over half an hour for both batteries. In winter temperatures, you do need to preheat the battery first, it will work more efficiently.
How does the Renault Scenic drive?
The Renault Scenic’s suspension is tuned primarily for comfort, but at the same time tight enough not to lean over uncomfortably in corners or sway on large bumps. In short, a good balance as far as we are concerned. Because electric motors have their power readily available, it is also a pretty smooth car. In that respect, you don’t even have to choose the most powerful version in the Netherlands.

The driver assistance systems do their job well. The wide range of cameras, including the 360-degree view from above, make even parking in a tight space child’s play. Speaking of cameras, the interior mirror is also an optional camera. That one gives nice clear images. On the other hand: with the digital interior mirror in use, it remains a highly reflective surface, so you quickly see two mirror images mixed up. The digital interior mirror is useful when passengers or luggage block the view through the rear window, but otherwise we still switched back to the traditional mirror mode.
The only real criticism in terms of assistance is the irritating speed warning. As early as 1 km/h above the speed limit, a beep sounds. Unfortunately, this is required by law. One thing Renault can do something about is that the traffic sign recognition (on the basis of which the system determines the speed limit) is often wrong and sets a much lower limit than actually applies. What is handy is that you can switch the assistance systems on and off as you wish and that you can save these preferences under a hotkey. The next time you start the car and everything is on again (because again, this is required by law), you can turn off everything you don’t need with the push of a button.

What does the Renault Scenic cost?
The test car in the photos has a price tag of 55,270 euros. But then again, that is the highest equipment level Iconic, with the necessary options added as well. In general, the new Renault Scenic is available from 40,490 euros. Want the more powerful engine and larger battery? Then you can do so from 45,990 euros. Then you also immediately have a higher equipment level, because base model Essential only comes with the least powerful engine and smaller battery.
The most current prices (and equipment) can be found at www.renault.nl.
So, does the Renault Scenic come highly recommended?
With the new Scenic, Renault takes a different path. It is no longer the traditional MPV of the past, but it remains practical, comfortable and spacious. Thanks to its extensive equipment and modern technologies, it is still an attractive choice for families. At the same time, the Renault Scenic is also an interesting offering in the electric car segment.
