Jeep Compass: design and platform

The new Jeep Compass is built on Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform, designed specifically for electrification in the C and D segments. The platform is optimized for long range, efficient charging speeds and good performance without compromising affordability. Of course, the Compass has technology on board that you can also find in the new Citroën C5 Aircross, Opel Grandland and Peugeot 3008/5008. But Jeep puts a different spin on it.

The design combines classic Jeep elements such as the seven-slot grille and trapezoidal wheel arches with modern shapes and functional finishes. The vehicle was designed by teams in Turin and the United States, with contributions from technical specialists worldwide. This results in a balance between off-road capabilities and everyday comfort. The new Compass is as suitable for urban driving as it is for adventurous drives over unpaved terrain.

New elements such as an anti-scratch front guard plate and reinforced bumpers add to the ruggedness. The front radar has been repositioned to prevent damage when maneuvering in tight spaces or rough terrain.

Colors inspired by natural areas

The six body colors available are inspired by geographic regions. The introductory color is Hawaii, a bright shade of green reminiscent of tropical islands. Other shades include Pacific (blue), Antarctica (white), Amazonia (green-brown), Yosemite (gray) and Vulcano (black). Each color reflects a natural landscape or climate.

Jeep Compass: also with front-wheel drive

The new Jeep Compass has standard ground clearance of up to 200 mm, a 20° drive-up angle, a 15° break-over angle and a 26° drive-down angle. Even the front-wheel-drive versions are suitable for light off-road driving. It can handle a water depth of up to 470 mm. All versions feature the Selec-Terrain system, which helps in a variety of driving conditions. Protection around the car (as also on the Avenger) provides protection from scratches and damage.

All-wheel-drive versions go a step further, with a 27° drive-up angle, a 16° break-over angle and a 31° drive-down angle. Ground clearance also increases and water penetration is improved. Hill Descent Control is standard on these versions. The suspension has been retuned, with modified springs, shock absorbers and stabilizer bars, to improve both comfort and handling.

Interior space and layout

At 4.55 meters long, the Jeep Compass remains relatively compact, but the interior has become more spacious. Rear legroom increased by 55 mm, interior storage space was increased by 34 liters, and luggage space grew to 550 liters. The rear seat features a 40/20/40 split as standard, providing additional flexibility in carrying passengers and luggage.

Technology on board

In terms of technology, the Compass has received an update that takes the model to the next level. The digital cockpit consists of a 10-inch instrument cluster and a 16-inch central screen. The car receives wireless software updates (OTA) and features connected services. Level 2 autonomous driving functionality is standard, providing support during heavy city traffic or longer trips.

There are also optional features such as a head-up display, matrix LED lighting, smartphone access and semi-automatic lane changes. Many of these features are normally only available in more expensive vehicle classes.

Powertrains Jeep Compass

Jeep offers the new Compass with different powertrains. The hybrid version with 48V system delivers 107 kW (145 hp). There is also a plug-in hybrid with 143 kW (195 hp). The range is completed by three all-electric versions (BEV), with outputs ranging from 157 kW (213 hp) (front-wheel-drive) to 276 kW (375 hp) for the most powerful all-wheel-drive version.

To achieve the 375 hp output, Jeep developed an extra powerful electric motor for the rear axle, exclusive to the brand. This motor delivers 36 kW (49 kW) and up to 232 Nm of torque. Thanks to a 14:1 transmission, up to 3,100 Nm of torque becomes available at the rear wheels, allowing the vehicle to climb a 20% slope even with zero traction on the front axle.

Charging is fast: with DC fast charging up to 160 kW, charging from 20% to 80% takes about 30 minutes. The on-board charger supports up to 22 kW. The range of the electric Compass rises to 650 km according to the WLTP test standard. This is made possible by improved aerodynamics, including active grille termination, air ducts at the wheels, sharp edges at the rear and a flat underbody. The coefficient of air resistance (CX) has been improved by 10% and comes out below 0.3.

The First Edition highlights the features of the new generation Compass: a recognizable Jeep profile, wheels up to 20 inches, matrix LED headlights, off-road-oriented driving angles and protection around the body. Standard features include heated cloth/vinyl seats with manual adjustability, lumbar support and various safety systems such as lane assist, front and rear parking assist sensors and a rearview camera. European roots

The new Jeep Compass will be produced at the Melfi plant in Italy. This underscores Jeep’s commitment to local production within Europe. Accordingly, the introduction will start on the European continent, after which the Compass will be available in other markets.

Jeep’s sales figures in Europe are on the rise. In 2024, the brand sold 132,000 vehicles in Europe, 80,000 of which came from the Jeep Avenger alone. Outside Italy, Jeep’s market share grew by nearly ten percentage points. In countries such as the United Kingdom, sales even tripled, and sales in France and the Netherlands also increased by one and a half times compared to 2023. In the first months of 2025, that trend continues, with a 1.1% market share.
