Extraordinary: electric RAM gets a fat V6

September 15, 2025

Why no more all-electric RAM?

According to Stellantis, Ram’s parent company, it is simply because the demand for large, all-electric pickups in North America is waning. The hype of a few years back seems to have cooled somewhat, partly because subsidies are disappearing and charging infrastructure is lagging behind in vast areas. So the all-electric RAM, it’s not coming. But a partially electric RAM, is still in the planning.

Range-extender

In fact, the brand is working on a RAM that does drive electrically, but gets help from a gasoline engine. A 3.6-liter V6 under the hood does not act as a driver, but as a generator that charges the battery. Originally called Ramcharger, this model will henceforth go by the name Ram 1500 REV.

Large battery

The numbers are still impressive. Under the floor is a hefty 92 kWh battery coupled to a 130 kW generator. The electric motors provide 250 kW for the front axle and 248 kW for the rear axle. In human terms, quite a lot of power, more than enough to tow a caravan or trailer. Ram is aiming for a towing weight of over 6,300 pounds and a payload of nearly 1,200 pounds.
