Without a helmet on the BMW Motorrad Vision CE

September 2, 2025

Where do we know the BMW Vision CE from? Well, it is very reminiscent of the BMW C1 scooter that came on the market in the year 2002. It was a two-wheeler with a canopy that contained a tubular frame. That protected you in the event of a fall. You sat yourself in two crossover belts on a seat with a headrest.

BMW without a helmet

The BMW C1 was released at the time to offer motorists a means of transportation for the city. Which you could ride without a helmet and was protected from wind and weather by the canopy including windshield with wiper.

But not in the Netherlands

On the C1, you were actually allowed to ride without a helmet in Germany. In our country, the Netherlands, a proposal did not make it. Politics felt that this motorized two-wheeler should not be exempt from the helmet requirement. As a result, the C1 did not become popular here, but it did in Germany and also France. Now you still see the C1 popping up on the streets of Paris.

BMW Vision CE at IAA

With the Vision CE, BMW Motorrad is making a new attempt for an urban two-wheeler with a protective roll cage that you can safely ride without a helmet. This vehicle will be on display at the IAA Mobility 2025 motorcycle show in Munich, which opens Sept. 8.

Electric drive

Thus, the Vision CE also has a roll cage made of metal tubes and seat belts, eliminating the need to wear a helmet and protective clothing. According to BMW, the Vision CE is not just another design study, but a logical follow-up to electric scooters such as the CE 04 (2022) and the compact CE 02 (2024).

Balance function

The BMW Vision CE is light and stands out because of its long wheelbase. It has an open frame made of coated aluminum. Neon red accents, a matte white base color and an elegant buddyseat with integrated lettering give the Vision CE a modern, almost futuristic look. Another highlight is the balancing function, which keeps the scooter fully balanced at a standstill. So you don’t have to put your feet on the ground.
