Tesla Full Self-Driving (Supervised): it is now allowed in the Netherlands!

April 15, 2026

Full Self-Driving (Supervised)

Full Self-Driving (Supervised) consists of a suite of smart Driver Assistance features that allow Tesla cars to drive themselves virtually anywhere under the active supervision of the driver. FSD (Supervised) is designed to eliminate the most stressful aspects of daily driving and maximize safety, for example, by being able to navigate through heavy city traffic, get in the right lane at intersections and change lanes.

Important information

The car will be able to drive itself almost anywhere with minimal driver intervention. The features currently available require active driver supervision and do not make the car autonomous. Activation and use are limited to jurisdictions with regulatory approval, which may take longer in some jurisdictions. Technical limitations may apply. Refer to the user manual and support page for more information.

This is how FSD learns

FSD (Supervised) learns the same way humans do: through experience. The global Tesla car fleet provides more than 500 years of driving data every day combined. With this data, FSD (Supervised) learns how to respond to even the rarest driving scenarios, making daily commutes safer for all road users.

External cameras

When FSD (Supervised) is enabled, the system primarily uses the vehicle’s external cameras and artificial intelligence to navigate through the world. FSD (Supervised) was designed from the start to ensure privacy. All real-time analysis of the environment, including processing of camera images and sensor data, is done by the vehicle’s own built-in AI computer. Although local processing is the standard, Tesla uses Fleet Learning to continually improve the system’s capabilities through wireless software updates. The use of Fleet Learning is permission-based and only anonymous data is shared with Tesla for this purpose.

Neural network

FSD (Supervised) works based on an end-to-end neural network trained with anonymous real-world driving data to interpret the environment and make driving decisions in real time. Instead of relying on separate, manually coded rules for each situation, the system learns to understand important information before driving, ranging from road markings and traffic lights to the presence of pedestrians and other vehicles, and sends control commands directly to the vehicle. This systemization allows the system to continuously improve itself with more data to adapt to complex real-world driving situations and deliver a smooth and natural driving experience.

14 billion kilometers

In its current form, FSD (Supervised) requires active driver supervision and the feature does not make the vehicle autonomous. The driver remains responsible at all times while driving. When FSD (Supervised) is enabled, the probability of a collision is (according to Tesla) up to seven times lower per kilometer driven compared to driving alone without the assistance of such a system. To date, more than 14 billion kilometers worldwide have been driven with FSD (Supervised).

Full Self-Driving (Supervised) in Europe

Prior to implementation with customers, Tesla conducted extensive internal testing of FSD (Supervised) across Europe, covering more than 1.6 million kilometers with FSD (Supervised) enabled. In late 2025, Tesla began offering ride-along experiences with FSD (Supervised) in select European countries. For example, more than 13,000 people in Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain were able to experience the feature for themselves on European roads.

Thousands of pages of documentation produced

Over the past 18 months, Tesla has worked hard to make FSD (Supervised) available in Europe. Tesla has produced thousands of pages of documentation, conducted thousands of on-track test scenarios, conducted dozens of safety performance and outcome studies, and given demonstrations to regulators in nearly every EU country. Today’s announcement marks an important milestone toward a future with autonomous driving in the region.

Customer rollout begins soon in the Netherlands

The Netherlands is the first European country to receive regulatory approval for FSD (Supervised). The rollout of FSD (Supervised) will begin in the coming days via wireless software updates. Tesla is also introducing a new subscription for Full Self-Driving in the Netherlands today: for 99 euros per month instead of a one-time purchase. Both options will remain available for a few more weeks, after which only the subscription will remain.

Tesla is working to gain regulatory approval for FSD (Supervised) in other European countries. Tesla’s come standard with Driver Assistance features and optional packages are available for every new Model S, Model 3, Model X and Model Y. Additional features are enabled when regulatory approval is obtained for that market.
