Summer tire test 2025: These summer tires are dangerous (and these are just right top)

March 7, 2025

Avoid these bands

We start right away with the summer tires that, according to the ANWB summer tire test, you had better not put on your car. The Double Coin DC100 comes out of the test as the worst, scoring a meager one star. On wet roads, this tire offers too little grip. The Norauto Prevensys 4 and Syron Premium Performance also excel in one thing: an extra long braking distance.

The winners

Which tires do you want if you want to hit the road with confidence? The Continental SportContact 7 and Bridgestone Potenza Sport are the undisputed winners. They offer excellent grip, whether the asphalt is dry or wet. The Michelin Pilot Sport 5 and Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 are also tops: they don’t wear out too quickly and keep you comfortable and safe on the road.

Not cheap

Good tires are not cheap. Continental, Bridgestone, Michelin and Goodyear can easily charge 100 euros or more for a tire. Then the Double Coin DC100 for about 50 euros suddenly sounds attractive, but keep this tip in mind: never save on tires. Still, we understand that not everyone has a few hundred euros lying around for a premium set of tires. Fortunately, there are excellent alternatives in the middle segment. ANWB tips brands such as Ceat, Nexen and Falken, which offer a good balance between price, lifespan and fuel consumption. So don’t want to pay top dollar, but also don’t want to go aquaplaning at the first rain shower? Then these brands are a safe choice.

Wear

Besides safety, wear is also an important factor. Because the faster your tires wear out, the more often you have to replace them – which is not only expensive, but also bad for the environment. Premium tires such as Michelin and Goodyear last up to 56,400 kilometers, according to the ANWB, while budget tires from Giti give up after only 33,600 kilometers. In short: cheap is expensive

Smart tips for the best choice

Are you in need of a new set of tires? Then pay attention to this:

– Go for tires with at least four stars for the best performance.
– Check the date of manufacture (DOT code) and avoid tires older than three years.
– Install four tires of the same brand and type for stable road handling.
– Keep an eye on your tire pressure and rotate your tires every 10,000 to 15,000 kilometers for even wear.
