Yes, finally! This electric car you can charge wirelessly

September 4, 2025

How it works.

The principle is actually simple and at the same time quite ingenious. Underneath the car is a receiver, in the wireless charger is a transmitter. As soon as the new Cayenne – the first Porsche model to support this – stands exactly above the wireless charger – a kind of floor plate – the energy is transferred via a magnetic field. The car even lowers a few inches to minimize the distance between the car and the plate. The charging power? Up to 11 kW, comparable to an ordinary AC charging cable.

Safe though?

Of course, safety has been considered. The floor plate recognizes foreign objects or movement between car and plate and shuts off immediately. The system has also been extensively tested by German testing authority TÜV Süd and meets both European and American safety requirements. Even rain, snow or an object accidentally rolling over the plate pose no problem.

Technology as a show piece

The market launch of the new Cayenne is approaching and Porsche is sprinkling more and more details. At the IAA Mobility in Munich, the brand is showing how wireless charging works. There, a camouflaged Cayenne is on the floorboard, fitted with fluorescent paint that lights up as soon as the energy flow begins. AutoRAI.nl is present at the show and is definitely going to take a look. So be sure to keep an eye on our YouTube channel.
