Volkswagen Touareg back on the map in the Netherlands!

May 24, 2023

19,216 micro LEDs

The Volkswagen Touareg’s sharpened design immediately catches the eye. Here the new Matrix HD headlights and the continuous LED light strip in the grille play a starring role. Each light unit uses 19,216 micro LEDs. Thanks to the many LEDs, several new functions become available. For example, a carpet of light can be projected onto the car’s roadway, making driving in the dark both more comfortable and safer. By purposefully turning off certain LEDs, oncoming traffic is not blinded when running high beam. The high-tech system also has special functions, including dynamic cornering lighting and briefly highlighting people and animals (in conjunction with Night Vision).

Continuous LED strip

Together with the new taillight units with continuous LED strip including an illuminated Volkswagen logo, special Coming Home and Leaving Home effects can be achieved. Depending on the trim chosen, the new Touareg has 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels. Optional 21- or even 22-inch units are available.

The latest driving assistance systems

As the top model within the Volkswagen range, the Touareg naturally features the latest and most advanced assistance systems. One example is the roof load sensor. It provides the driving assistance systems such as the ESC with information. For example, if the sensor detects that a roof box is mounted, the ESC can intervene more quickly to ensure the stability of the car. If no roof box is mounted, the ESC actually intervenes later.

Travel Assist enables partially automated driving (up to top speed). With Park Assist Plus, the Touareg can be remotely parked in or out using an app. Trailer Assist facilitates maneuvering with a trailer. Night Vision improves safety levels by using a thermal camera to provide early visibility of persons and animals near the road.

Innovision Cockpit

The Innovision Cockpit is the absolute highlight of the Touareg’s interior. The Digital Cockpit (30.5 cm) and the Discover Pro Max infotainment system with 38.1 cm touch-screen display fit seamlessly together. This creates a one-screen “digital landscape. The navigation function now provides lane-level information and uses HD data for display. The voice control function is of the latest generation, and via App Connect, smartphones (Android and Apple) can be linked wirelessly. The USB-C ports have a charging capacity of 45 watts (previously 15W), allowing smartphones and other devices to charge even faster. Interesting options include the head-up display and the high-end sound system from Dynaudio.

3,500 kg towing weight

Every Touareg comes standard with 4MOTION all-wheel drive. With a choice of on- and off-road modes, the 4MOTION system provides optimum grip and stability in all conditions and on any surface. Partly because of this – and the high towing weight of 3,500 kg – the Touareg is well suited for towing heavy trailers, including large caravans and horse, car and boat trailers. Optionally, the new Touareg is available with adaptive air suspension; in terms of handling and comfort, this Volkswagen can compete with the top premium SUVs on the market.

Plug-in hybrid technology standard

In the Netherlands, the new Touareg will be available in two trims: the Elegance and the sporty R. Both have a plug-in hybrid powertrain and an eight-speed automatic transmission. In the Touareg eHybrid Elegance, the interplay of a V6 gasoline engine and an electric motor leads to a system output of 280 kW/381 hp.

Elegance version

Standard features for the Elegance trim include Air Care Climatronic air conditioning, the Digital Innovision Cockpit with Discover Premium navigation system, a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable seats and leather upholstery. The Touareg eHybrid Elegance underlines its leadership in lighting with Matrix HD headlight illumination and LED taillights with dynamic braking and directional function. Convenient features also include the power-opening tailgate and Keyless Go starting system. For high-level comfort and safety, Adaptive Cruise Control, Park Assist, Lane Assist, Front Assist and a rearview camera are always included.

Touareg R eHybrid

The Touareg R eHybrid developed by Volkswagen R also has a plug-in hybrid powertrain, but in this case with a system output of as much as 340 kW/462 hp and maximum torque of 700 Nm. It offers all the luxuries of the Elegance and adds numerous sporty touches, such as 20-inch “Braga” alloy wheels, blue brake calipers with silver R logo, illuminated R entry strips, the start screen with R logo for the navigation system and “Vienna” leather upholstery with blue stitching. Air conditioning with four climate zones , interior lighting in 30 adjustable colors and air suspension are also included as standard equipment on the Touareg R, which is also available in the unique matte paint color “Silicon Grey.

21 years of Volkswagen Touareg

The Volkswagen Touareg has been built in Europe since 2002. The Bratislava plant employs more than 12,000 people, making it one of Slovakia’s largest employers. Volkswagen’s first SUV offered the comfort of a luxury sedan combined with serious off-road and towing qualities. The engine range was very broad. The emphasis was on 5-, 6- and 8-cylinder engines. In 2006, the mighty Touareg V10 TDI appeared and there was even a limited edition with W12 gasoline engine. In the second generation (from 2010), the Touareg Hybrid made its appearance, followed by the third generation (from 2018) in which plug-in hybrid technology debuted. More than 4,000 Touaregs have been sold in the Netherlands.
