This new Smart has as much power as a supercar (AND can charge at lightning speed)

March 24, 2025

Spacious and robust

At nearly 4.70 meters long and with a wheelbase of 2.9 meters, the Smart #5 is anything but compact. It’s a hefty SUV, with up to 1,530 liters of luggage space when you flatten the rear seats. In the front is a frunk, good for another 72 liters-enough for your groceries and charging cables. In terms of design, it is a real (modern) Smart, with lots of rounded shapes.

Five flavors

There are five variants of the Smart #5: Pro, Pro+, Premium, Pulse and Summit Edition. They differ in equipment, performance and battery size. Only the base version, the Pro, gets a “modest” 76 kWh battery and 465 kilometers of range. All other models get a 100 kWh package, good for a range of up to 590 kilometers (WLTP). Starting with the Pulse, you also get all-wheel drive and shoot from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. In fact, the Pulse and Summit Edition boast 587 horsepower, not much less than an average supercar.

fast charging

Thanks to its 800V platform, the Smart #5 can charge extremely fast-up to 400 kW. Charging from 10 to 80 percent takes only 18 minutes, provided you can find such a powerful fast charger. The entry-level model can charge up to 150 kW. Handy: the charging port also includes a 230V socket.

Inside

The interior is a screen mecca. Among other things, you get a 25.6-inch augmented reality head-up display, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and two 13-inch OLED screens in the center. You also get luxury materials such as oak, leather, ambient lighting in 256 colors and even heated rear seats with adjustable seat backs.

Pricing and market launch

The Smart #5 will be at Dutch dealers starting May 13. The starting price is 48,440 euros. The 587-hp Pulse comes from 57,940 euros. For the equally powerful but fatter dressed Summit Edition, the brand asks 59,440 euros.
