This is the most expensive new Porsche ever: what’s so special about it?

August 23, 2022

Porsche 911

A cheap used Porsche 911 does not seem to exist. Well before the corona outbreak, prices of a good used 911 went through the roof. For a new Porsche, you also have to dig deep into your pocket. In the Netherlands, the automaker charges a minimum of 159,000 euros for a 911. A pittance, compared to the new 911 sold in California.

Sally Special

The 911 in question is not a special racing version with otherworldly power, but a “regular” 911 Carrera GTS. What makes it unusual is the fact that it is a one-off. In short, there is only one of them. The model is called the 911 Sally Special and is a modern recreation of the Sally Carrera from the animated film Cars. The car is the result of a collaboration between Porsche and film studio Pixar.

Cars

The car has some nice details that reference the Sally Special from Cars. The car has the same wheels as the movie car, with special Cars valve caps. The color of the cars also matches and is called ‘Sally Blue Metallic’. The tribal striping under the spoiler is also present. The Sally Special also features ‘Sally Carrera’ badges on the rear windows, a ‘Cars’ logo on both doors and a special ‘Sally Special 001/001’ plaque on the dashboard. The handlebar is equipped with a ‘Kachow! Mode” button.

Charities

That a 911 will fetch a lot of money at auction is not all that remarkable, but $3.6 million is a high amount even for a unique Porsche. The proceeds of the auction will go to two charities, so the bidding was extra robust. The targets are Girls Inc, a fund that helps young women in the U.S. and Canada, and USA for UNHCR, a charity that works to help refugees who have fled as a result of the war in Ukraine.
