This Chinese hypercar sets new top speed record for electric cars
Yangwang U9 Track Edition: technical basis and innovations
The Yangwang U9 Track Edition is developed on the same e4 platform and with the DiSus-X engineering architecture as the regular U9 available in China. The model features a 1200V high-voltage platform and a thermal management system optimized for extreme conditions.
The powertrain consists of four electric motors, each with a peak power output of 555 kW. Together, the system delivers more than 3,000 hp, resulting in a power-to-weight ratio of 1,217 hp per ton. The torque-vectoring system distributes torque per wheel more than a hundred times per second, maintaining stability even at high speeds.
The DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control System provides separate suspension adjustments at all four corners of the car. This reduces rolling and diving movements and increases tire grip during acceleration, cornering and on uneven road surfaces.

Aerodynamics and tires
In terms of design, the Track Edition remains close to the current Yangwang U9, but an optional carbon fiber splitter has been added. Specially developed semi-slick tires from Giti Tire were used for the record. These tires feature modified compound materials, a special tread and a knurling treatment on the rim flange to reduce slippage between tire and rim.
Driver and record
The record attempt was performed by Marc Basseng, who also set the previous record in 2024. Afterwards, he expressed surprise that he was able to push his own limit again on the same track, thanks in part to the new technologies used in the Track Edition.
Yangwang has been operating since 2022
Yangwang was introduced as a premium brand of BYD in November 2022. The brand focuses on developing high-end electric vehicles with technology and performance at its core.
