Renewed Porsche Taycan (2024) offers more and comes farther

Since 2019, Porsche has already produced nearly 150,000 units of the Taycan. Now all three body styles have been updated: the Taycan sedan as well as the tough Taycan Cross Turismo and sporty Taycan Sport Turismo. Each version offers a choice of four powertrain options, with both rear- and all-wheel drive. Leading up to its introduction, engineers and test drivers in camouflaged test cars traveled more than 3.6 million kilometers to refine Porsche’s first all-electric sports car. 

Era of e-mobility

“With the Taycan, we ushered in the era of e-mobility in 2019. It was a real gamechanger and an innovative pioneer,” explained Kevin Giek, head of the Taycan model range. “With the updated Taycan, we are adding a new chapter to this success story. The model series sets new standards in terms of performance, driving dynamics and driving pleasure. At the same time, we were able to significantly improve efficiency and range as well as everyday convenience and comfort.”

Improved performance for Porsche Taycan

The updated models accelerate even faster than their predecessors already did. Thus, the Taycan and Taycan Turbo S sedans now reach 100 km/h in 4.8 and 2.4 seconds, respectively, 0.6 and 0.4 seconds faster than their predecessors. The improved acceleration figures are partly due to higher power ratings. The regular Taycan, for example, delivers 60 kW more than before; in the Taycan Turbo S with Launch Control, it is even 140 kW extra. This increases the total overboost power with Launch Control of the top model to 700 kW (952 hp).

WLTP range and faster charging

Depending on the body style and drivetrain, the WLTP range has increased to a maximum of 678 kilometers, an increase of 175 kilometers or 35 percent. During long trips, the updated Taycan not only requires fewer charging stops than its predecessor, but also recharges the vehicle faster. At 800-volt fast charging stations, for example, it is possible to charge with up to 320 kW, 50 kW more than before. The duration in which the new performance battery can be quickly recharged has also been increased. This means that load capacities of more than 300 kW can be held for up to five minutes.

Temperature has less influence 

In addition, very high load capacities can be achieved faster, even at low temperatures. Depending on conditions, this can halve the time to go from 10 to 80 percent charge compared to its predecessors. In the first generation Taycan, charging from 10 to 80 percent of battery capacity took 37 minutes at 15 degrees Celsius. Under the same conditions, it now takes only 18 minutes with the new Taycan, despite the larger battery capacity. The Performance battery Plus now has a gross capacity of 105 kWh instead of 93 kWh.

New active chassis for Porsche Taycan

Porsche now equips all updated Taycan models with adaptive air suspension as standard. The new Porsche Active Ride suspension is available as an option for the all-wheel-drive versions. This system offers an unprecedented range between ride comfort and dynamic handling. The suspension keeps the Taycan’s body stable under all conditions, even during dynamic braking, steering and acceleration maneuvers. On a quieter ride, the system absorbs virtually every bump. In dynamic driving conditions, Porsche Active Ride damping ensures a near-perfect connection to the road thanks to a balanced distribution of wheel loads. When the proper driving mode is activated, the suspension counteracts sway and roll tendencies, greatly reducing G-forces on occupants.

Increased recovery capacity

The improvement in performance and efficiency is due to a number of factors. The advanced powertrain with a new electric motor on the rear axle delivers up to 80 kW more power on all models. The models also have more powerful battery packs, improved heat management, a latest-generation heat pump, improvements to recovery and refinements in the way power is distributed to the four wheels. The maximum recovery capacity when decelerating from high speeds has increased by more than 30 percent, from 290 to a maximum of 400 kW. All variants now get standard aerodynamically optimized rims plus tires with reduced rolling resistance. Porsche has developed 21-inch rims and tires especially for this purpose.

More equipment, less weight

Although the updated Taycan weighs up to 15 kilograms less, the standard equipment is more extensive than before. So things like ambient lighting, ParkAssist with reversing camera, heated front seats, Porsche Intelligent Range Manager (PIRM), a heat pump with a new cooling system, a smartphone holder for wireless charging, the Drive Mode switch and Power Steering Plus are all now standard. Base versions now also have standard adaptive air suspension and aluminum trims. In addition, these models have a larger-capacity battery that is nevertheless lighter.

Design Porsche Taycan 2024

With new styling details on the front and rear – including new headlights and taillights – Style Porsche designers have further refined the Taycan’s attractive, purist design. The new front wings and flatter headlights further emphasize the Taycan’s width. The new headlights feature high-quality HD matrix technology and display the brand’s signature four-pitch design at night. The Porsche logo in the taillight strip has a three-dimensional design with glass-like appearance. An illuminated version of this is now available for the first time, including welcome/farewell animations. With the accent color Turbonite, the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S stand out from other versions on the outside and inside.

Interior

The instrument panel, central display and optional passenger display have an improved user interface with additional features. A mode switch on the steering wheel is now standard. For Taycan models with the Sport Chrono package and Performance battery Plus, there is a special push-to-pass button on the mode switch. With this, depending on the model, a boost of up to 70 kW can be summoned for ten seconds. With the new control lever on the left side behind the steering wheel, operation of the driver assistance systems is even more intuitive. Apple CarPlay is now integrated into the Taycan’s displays and features in a more comprehensive and seamless manner. The new In-Car Video feature allows video streaming on the central display and passenger display. The redesigned Taycan is available to order immediately and will be at Dutch Porsche Centers this spring. Prices will be announced in the near future.
