Parking anxiety? Buy a Hyundai IONIQ 5 with e-Corner

E-Corner technology further developed

Really new is not the idea of the e-Corner module. Hyundai MOBIS, Hyundai’s division specializing in spare parts and autonomous driving, showed the technology back in 2018. But at CES 2023, a completely new and functioning prototype was shown. The system has now been applied to all four wheels. This allows all wheels to turn, making it easy to enter and exit an off-road parking space. The car simply moves to the side of the road, toward the parking space.

Four systems in one

The improved e-Corner module, according to its makers, is a complete functioning system consisting of an electric motor, damper but also brake-by-wire and steer-by-wire systems. The weight of a module is not known. It is known, however, that the system will be built into the wheel. Whether the e-Corner modules will ever reach the production stage is not clear at this time. It remains a complex system. But if the demand is there, why not put it into production?

Movements of a crab

Hyundai MOBIS: “Now you can mimic the real-life movements of a crab. The natural advantages in a narrow inner city or in freight areas are obvious.” The system has several modes: crab-riding, 360-degree turn (zero-turn), diagonal drive and pivot turn. You can see the technology in action in the video below!
