Kia K4 Station Wagon offers 166 liters more space than hatchback

January 13, 2026

The Sportswagon is the station wagon variant of the previously presented K4 hatchback, making it a full-fledged player between the C and D segments, according to Kia’s own claims. You can compare it somewhat to the Ceed Sportwagon.

Familiar shape, but slightly different

The Kia K4 hatchback and the Sportwagon are broadly similar. Surprisingly, it is not, given that the basics are the same in terms of design and technology. However, the differences become apparent in a similar way to, for example, the EV4 hatchback and the EV4 Fastback. In the hatchback, the c-pillar stands up steeply – it’s in the name – while it flows backwards in the Fastback. We see the same design trick on the K4 hatchback and station wagon. The Sportswagon looks longer and lower, with a silhouette clearly focused on space.

The design of the Kia K4 Sportswagon neatly follows Kia’s “Opposites United” philosophy. Clean, horizontal lines emphasize the car’s width, while the long roofline makes it immediately clear what this car is for. The Star Map Signature Lighting and inverted L-shaped LED taillights give the rear a recognizable signature.

Obviously, all of Kia’s models are being modernized bit by bit; the contrast with the aforementioned Ceed Sportswagon is stark. Note such details as the recessed rear door handles and the strikingly shaped C-pillar. Of course, the K4 Station Wagon comes out even better as a GT-Line. That adds high-gloss accents, custom bumpers and specific alloy wheels. Inside, too, the car then gets a sportier look.

Space as the main asset in the Kia K4

The real difference from the hatchback is in the rear. The Kia K4 Sportswagon offers up to 604 liters of luggage space, which is 166 liters more than the hatchback. Thanks to a wheelbase of 2,720 millimeters, rear passengers also benefit from extra legroom. As a result, the Sportswagon feels more spacious not only for luggage, but also for occupants. By the way, should you have your hands full with luggage – or your company – don’t despair. The tailgate has electric hands-free operation, making loading and unloading a breeze.

Digital, connected and comfortable

Inside, the K4 blends seamlessly with what we know from Kia. The “Connected Car Navigation Cockpit” combines multiple screens into one broad unit. Depending on the trim level, that consists of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 5.3-inch display for climate control and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. OTA updates are possible via Kia Connect, as are music streaming, a Wi-Fi hotspot and various remote vehicle functions. The AI-powered voice assistant is not lacking either, helping with anything and everything. Long story short, no shortage of connectivity. For added comfort, options include heated and ventilated front seats, organic-based synthetic leather upholstery and a Harman Kardon audio system.

Kia K4 gets your family safely from A to B

The K4 Sportswagon features an extensive arsenal of driving assistance systems. Blind spot cameras display their images live in the driver’s screen, active blind spot assist intervenes when necessary, and you’ll easily drive from A to B on the highway with adaptive cruise control and Highway Driving Assist 2.0. Okay, it’s an elongated car, but parking and maneuvering remain manageable thanks to a 360-degree camera system, and front and rear cross traffic is actively monitored to prevent accidents.

Mild Hybrid now for Kia K4, Full Hybrid later

When introduced in the Netherlands, the Kia K4 Sportswagon will appear as a Mild Hybrid, with a 1.0 T-GDi gasoline engine rated at 84 kW (115 hp). This can be combined with a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. A Full Hybrid will also follow in late 2026.

What does the Kia K4 cost?

The Kia K4 Sportswagon will arrive in the Netherlands in mid-June, so exact prices and specifications will follow later. What has already become clear is that Kia still believes in the station wagon.
