Kia Concept EV5: is this the successor to the Sportage?

March 21, 2023

Kia Concept EV5

The Kia Concept EV5 was presented during Kia Chinese EV Day. A production version of the Kia Concept EV5 will enter the Chinese market later in 2023. Whether Kia will carry the model in Europe is not clear at this time. We consider the likelihood quite high, as the model is also perfectly in line with Kia’s range in Europe in terms of name. The brand already carries an EV6 and the EV9 is also coming our way.

For the Chinese market

But initially, the EV5 is intended only for the Chinese market. “Details regarding future plans for other global markets will be announced in due course,” Kia said in a statement.

Powertrains

Technical information about the Kia EV5 has not yet been released, but with cost savings in mind, it is obvious that Kia will use powertrains from the EV6. So count on several variants with rear- and all-wheel drive and batteries up to 77 kWh in size.

Competition Kia EV5

Of course, the electric SUV does stand on the so-called E-GMP platform. In terms of size, the EV5 can be compared to a Sportage. This automatically makes the EV5 a competitor to cars such as the Volkswagen ID.4, Subaru Solterra, Toyota bZ4X and Nissan Ariya.
