Humor: BMW builds biggest grille ever

December 19, 2022

BMW M3 G80

Some BMW enthusiasts had to gulp when the brand pulled the curtain off the current generation M3 and M4 in September 2020. The kidney grille turned out to be huge. But it was only the beginning. The models BMW introduced after that had even larger nostrils. Think of the BMW iX, new 7 Series and the XM. But it can always be even bigger.

Humor

After all, BMW is well aware that jokes are occasionally made about the nose part of some new models. As a brand, you can then sulk angrily in a corner, or you can go along with the joke. Now Germans are not known for their humor, but we can laugh at BMW’s stunt in Japan.

Large kidney grille

At the Tokyo Auto Salon, the automaker placed a meter-high grille on their booth. And we really mean meters high. The dimensions of the grille are not known, but it appears to be at least four meters high. The grille – which we rename Grillezilla – may be gigantic, but it is otherwise an exact copy of an M3 grille. In the upper right corner sits neatly an M3 badge, and below it we even detect a parking sensor.

Tokyo Auto Salon

The Tokyo Auto Salon has existed since 1983 and is one of the largest auto fairs in Japan. The fair is not aimed at consumer car enthusiasts, but at racing fans and tuning enthusiasts. The BWM booth will therefore feature a BMW M4 GT3 that won at Suzuka Circuit in the Autobacks Super GT 2022 Series GT3000 class, a BMW M3 Sedan Competition M xDrive, a BMW M240i xDrive with M Performance parts and a new model will debut. Whether this will be an entirely new model or a special Japanese version of an existing model is not yet clear. Whatever it will be, you may wonder if it will get more attention at the booth than the meter-high grille.
