Festive models at BMW to celebrate 100 years of motorcycle building

December 16, 2022

In December 1922, Max Friz, then chief designer at BMW, sketched the outline of the first BMW motorcycle. This R 32 was unveiled in September 1923. Now, 100 years later, BMW Motorrad is presenting exclusive 100 Years versions of the R nineT and R 18.

Limited number: 1923

The BMW R 32 is a legend. This motorcycle with a twin-cylinder four-stroke boxer engine and shaft drive marks the beginning of the success story that continues the Heritage model series of the BMW R nineT and R 18 Big Boxer. So of these will now come special 100 Years versions to celebrate 100 years of BMW Motorrad, of just 1,923 each.

Source of inspiration: BMW R75/5

The BMW R 75/5 of the early 1970s with its chromed tank flanks and side panels inspired the Classic Chrome Surface concept for the BMW R nineT 100 Years and R 18 100 Years. Chrome and high-quality paint go together playfully. Of both models, the tank is finished in a combination of black paint, chrome. And check out the double white lines complemented by knee pads and a 100 Years badge.

Classic chrome and black

Classic chrome also adorns the cover of the rear of the R nineT’s buddy seat. The front fender is finished in black paint with double white lines. The upholstery of the buddy seat comes in the color combination of black and “oxblood” red. Numerous black colored parts, such as the front fork sleeves, air intake snorkel and a number of Option 719 components complete the picture.

BMW R nineT 100 Years

The R nineT 100 Years has Option 719 wheels with black anodized rim edges. Also standard is the Option 719 Shadow package with valve covers, engine cover, buddy seat holders and milled aluminum oil filler cap. So does the Option 719 Shadow II package as standard. That includes adjustable levers for clutch and brake, footrests (also for the pillion passenger), expansion tank covers, handlebars, mirrors made of milled aluminum. Adaptive cornering lights and the Comfort package with heated grips, cruise control and Ride Modes Pro complete the BMW R nineT’s comprehensive equipment.

BMW R 18 100 Years

The color scheme of the R 18 100 Years is Classic Chrome with black paint, with high-gloss chrome surfaces and double white lines and a 100 Years badge. This color concept also marks the rear fender, front fender and side panels. The Option 719 seat cover comes in black and “oxblood” red and is finished in a high-quality diamond pattern.

Propellor-style

The R 18 100 Years is further notable for its chrome-plated parts, such as the handlebars, handlebar clamps, handlebar end weights, shift pedal, footrest mounts, mirror housing, master cylinders, brake calipers, engine cover, valve covers and intake tubes. Other features of the BMW R 18 100 Years include chrome-plated Akrapovič mufflers with perforated end pipes in the propeller-style BMW logo.

And R 18 now also for A2 driving license!

Safety and comfort are assured with Headlight Pro with adaptive cornering lights, reversing assist, electronic cruise control and heated grips. Optionally ex-factory, the new BMW R 18 100 Years can be equipped with an anti-theft alarm, backrest, running boards, Hill Start Control, fuel cap lock and reduced power for A2 license.

Legendary boxer engine

With the R nineT and the R 18 Heritage models, BMW Motorrad is paying attention to its 100-year existence and tradition that are inextricably linked to the legendary boxer motorcycle. Tradition and history are also anchored in the BMW Motorrad plant in Berlin – the birthplace of almost every BMW motorcycle of the past 50 years.
