Everything you need to know about the Audi RS2

March 18, 2023

Audi RS2 Specifications

The Audi RS2 was equipped with a 2.2-liter five-cylinder engine developed in cooperation with Porsche. This powerful engine produced 315 hp and had 410 Nm of torque, allowing the RS2 to reach a top speed of 262 km/h and sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds. The unique five-cylinder engine – albeit with 0.3-liter more engine capacity – is also used in today’s Audi RS3. It is a masterpiece from Audi. The sound of the engine is characteristic of several smaller Audi RS models and is loved by car enthusiasts around the world.

Audi and Porsche

The cooperation between Audi and Porsche in producing the Audi RS2 was a first for both German automakers. It was the first time Porsche had been involved in the development of an Audi model, and the result was a car that was a perfect blend of sportiness and practicality. The collaboration between the two companies was so successful that it paved the way for further cooperation between Audi and Porsche, including the production of the Porsche Cayenne. Later, other manufacturers would also collaborate, such as McLaren and Mercedes in the production of the SLR, another iconic car from the early 2000s.

The beginning of the performance station wagon

The Audi RS2 is considered the founding father of today’s performance station wagon. The car was ahead of its time, offering unparalleled performance and handling, without compromising on the practicality and functionality of an estate car. The RS2’s success spurred Audi to continue the development of other performance estate cars, such as the wildly popular Audi RS6. Without the role of the RS2, the modern performance station wagon might not be what it is today.
