BYD picks up: Han available for immediate order

December 14, 2022

Third model

The BYD Han is the third model of the brand to be introduced to the Dutch market by importer Louwman. The Atto 3, a compact crossover, and the Tang, a seven-seat SUV, preceded the Han. With the Han, BYD opens the attack on luxury European offerings such as the Mercedes-Benz EQE.

Drop shape

Like that aforementioned competitor – and electric cars in general – we see BYD joining the trend where the focus is mainly on making cars more aerodynamic to get more range. With a low hood, raised fenders, tapered body contours and the flat door handles, an air resistance coefficient of 0.233 has been achieved. This contributes in part to the WLTP range of 521 kilometers.

In the floor of the Han is an 85.4 kWh battery pack. Two electric motors combine for a system output of 517 hp, which is distributed to four wheels. The result is an acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Not crazy for a five-meter-long sedan. Brakes from Brembo bring the beast back to a stop.

Charging the BYD Han can be done with 120 kW DC fast charging, which can recharge the battery pack from 30 to 80 percent within 30 minutes. Furthermore, the Han is equipped with Vehicle to Load (V2L) technology, which allows you to charge electrical devices.

Luxury equipment

The BYD Han is not childishly executed. Among other things, the limousine comes with seats made of perforated Nappa leather, which are heatable and ventilated in both the front and rear. Rear passengers also have an electric recliner and have their own 7-inch “media pad” in the center armrest. It lets you control the temperature and airflow, operate the panoramic sunroof and choose your favorite color from the 31 combinations of ambient lighting. We also see diamond-stitched leather on the doors and black leather on the dashboard and door panels. Real wood and aluminum have also been used, and 12 speakers can be found throughout the interior.

Safety

The BYD Han features the DiPilot intelligent driving assistance system. This system offers a number of electronic aids, including blind spot detection, Front Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Rear Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alerts and Lane Change Assistance. The battery in the BYD Han, called the BYD Blade Battery, is cobalt-free and uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) as its cathode material, which offers a much higher level of safety than conventional lithium-ion batteries. LFP has excellent thermal stability. In addition, the construction of the battery withstands the nail penetration test (Nail Penetration Test).

What does the BYD Han cost?

Prices for the luxury Chinese limousine start at 72,490 euros for the 4WD Executive. The AWD Emerald Edition may go for 75,990 euros. Both versions have the same previously mentioned drivetrain with 517 horsepower. This makes the Han a punch cheaper than its direct competitor the EQE 43 AMG (476 hp and 532 km range), which is listed in the brochure for 111,000 euros.
