BMW X1 M35i has brand new power source

June 28, 2023

BMW Group Efficient Dynamics

The four-cylinder in-line 2.0-liter gasoline engine in the BMW X1 M35i is from the new modular generation of BMW Group Efficient Dynamics engines. The block has M TwinPower Turbo technology and is mated to a seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission. Maximum power is 221 kW (300 hp) with maximum torque of 400 Nm.

Performance BMW X1 M35i

From standstill, the new BMW X1 M35i reaches 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds, and the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. The engine delivers its maximum power of 221 kW (300 hp) between 5,750 and 6,500 rpm, while maximum torque of 400 Nm is available between 2,000 and 4,500 rpm.

Characteristic of the new 2.0-liter engine is dual fuel injection per cylinder for optimal fuel mixture. The engine also features VANOS variable camshaft timing with optimized oil supply and VALVETRONIC fully variable valve timing.

Transmission

The seven-speed Steptronic transmission of the new BMW X1 M35i has a so-called M Sport Boost function. Engaging this most sporty mode for powertrain and suspension is done by holding the left shift paddle retracted for at least one second.

BMW xDrive all-wheel drive

BMW xDrive all-wheel drive ensures optimal distribution of drive power to the front and rear wheels based on conditions. A clutch with electro-hydraulic control can send drive power to the rear wheels within milliseconds. All-wheel drive is assisted by a mechanical limited-slip differential integrated into the seven-speed Steptronic transmission.

Adaptive M suspension and Sport Steering

The new BMW X1 M35i comes standard with the adaptive M suspension with mechanically controlled, adjustable and frequency-selective dampers. The top model also stands 15 millimeters lower above the road surface than the other BMW X1 models. Standard Sport Steering offers speed-dependent Servotronic power steering with very direct transmission.

Braking system with optional M Compound disc brakes

The BMW X1 M35i is the first performance model from BMW M GmbH to be optionally available with M Compound disc brakes, featuring four-piston fixed calipers and perforated brake discs at the front with a diameter of 385 mm and single-piston floating calipers at the rear with integrated handbrake and 330 mm diameter brake discs. The calipers are finished in gray and feature the M logo.

Standard 19-inch alloy M wheels

19-inch M alloy wheels are part of the standard equipment of the BMW X1 M35i. The alloy wheels feature tires that are 20 mm wider than on the previous model, giving the BMW X1 M35i even more dynamic potential. Optional are 20-inch light-alloy M wheels in an exclusive double-spoke design and with sport tires.

Features BMW X1 M35i

The new BMW X1 M35i stands out not only with its performance from the other BMW X1 models, but also with its M-specific design. The interior of the BMW X1 M35i already has a particularly sporty look as standard. That can be further enhanced with exclusive options such as the M Sport seats. M-specific displays on the BMW Curved Display – a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel and a 10.7-inch information display that combine to form a whole – alert the driver to the sporty performance.

The M-specific design features of the new BMW X1 M35i are a visual confirmation of the technology that goes into the exceptionally sporty car and also contribute to optimal aerodynamics and supply of cooling air. For example, the front bumper with particularly large air intakes ensures that the engine, transmission and brakes are always at optimal temperatures, even when braking hard. Prominent sill extensions, a model-specific roof spoiler and a rear bumper with diffuser insert make the performance-oriented character of the new top model immediately apparent.

The BMW M kidney grille of the new BMW X1 M35i features the M logo and horizontal double bars – a detail that characterizes BMW M GmbH’s high-performance models. In the side view, the black M exterior mirror caps and double mirror base are a highlight. Also very recognizable are the four exhaust tailpipes – each 80 mm in diameter – integrated on the far left and right into the model-specific rear bumper, as a visual reference to the most refined engine in the model range.

Interior

The similarly M-specific cockpit design adds to the intense, performance-oriented experience in the interior. Highlights include the Alcantara-clad dashboard, the Aluminum Hexacube Dark interior accents, anthracite-colored headliner, M door sills, M pedals, the M-specific displays on the BMW Curved Display – and optionally also the BMW Head-Up Display – and the leather-clad M Sport steering wheel with shift paddles.

The standard equipment of the new BMW X1 M35i also includes sport seats upholstered in black Veganza/Alcantara with blue contrasting stitching. These seats are optionally available with Vernasca leather with special diamond pattern. M Sport seats are available as an option.

The sporty interior is nonetheless unabatedly functional. The backrest of the rear seats folds down in a 40:20:40 ratio and the angle of the backrest is individually adjustable for each seat. Optional rear seats slide forward and backward for even more flexibility. The boot has a capacity of 540 liters and can be increased to 1,600 liters.

Standard equipment

The new BMW X1 M35i comes standard with automatic air conditioning, BMW Live Cockpit Plus with BMW Maps navigation, M roof rails in high-gloss black, automatic operation of the tailgate, a rain sensor with automatic activation of the headlights, four USB-C sockets and two 12V sockets.

In terms of assistance and automated driving and parking, the BMW X1 M35i also leaves nothing to be desired. Standard equipment includes Front Collision Warning, Cruise Control with braking function and Parking Assistant with reversing camera and Reversing Assistant. Options available include Steering and Lane Control, Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function, Active Navigation, Exit Warning, Surround View, Remote 3D View, the BMW Drive Recorder and the Remote Theft Recorder.

BMW iDrive with QuickSelect and BMW Operating System 9

The new BMW X1 M35i is one of the first models with the updated version of the BMW iDrive control system, featuring QuickSelect and BMW Operating System 9. To make selecting and operating various functions and digital services even more intuitive and convenient, the latest generation of BMW iDrive offers a newly designed “home” screen and the QuickSelect function. It involves an improved menu structure similar to that of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. By displaying the right information in the right place, the new BMW iDrive provides a more focused and safer driving experience.

The BMW iDrive system with QuickSelect is supported by BMW Operating System 9. This technology offers an even wider range of digital content for information and entertainment. There are more frequent updates and improved access to various specific online services. BMW iDrive with QuickSelect works in conjunction with the BMW Curved Display and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, making it entirely focused on touchscreen operation and natural voice commands.
