BMW M Competition models are too popular, so BMW scraps them
M Competition
It sounds a little strange: quitting something that sells well. But according to BMW M boss Frank van Meel, it actually makes sense. Speaking to BMW Blog, he said, “More than eighty percent of our customers chose the Competition right away. So we thought: why not just make it standard? Clear
With this move, BMW M wants to simplify the lineup. Instead of all kinds of variants, there will soon remain a choice of three flavors: M, CS and CSL. The regular M gets the performance of the old Competition, while the CS and CSL are more focused on weight reduction and on the track. For now, some models – such as the M3, M4 and X5 M – will remain available as Competition for a while. But new models such as the M2 and M5 will do without that badge.
