Winning cars at the casino: how often does it really happen?

In the Netherlands you don’t often come across it, but in America you sometimes even see a complete car floating above a Roulette or Blackjack table. At foreign casino it seems to be some kind of stunt where you can actually win a car in the casino. In the Netherlands it is usually a promotional action as well and very occasionally it happens in Holland Casino. But how often do you really have a chance to win a car in a casino? For this, we decided to travel to Las Vegas and see how likely you are to win a car in the gambling city of the world.

You used to be able to win a car at any casino in Las Vegas

Anyone who ever traveled to Las Vegas years ago remembers the beautiful cars ready to be taken away. At least if you managed to win at the casino. This turns out to be a lot harder than you might think in theory. After all, you can’t just win a car.

In Las Vegas, it was all about a certain Blackjack combination you had to make. Or you had to win a minimum amount by a certain number in Roulette. Only when you travel to Las Vegas today do you notice that the number of cars you can win is hugely disappointing. The trend seems to be a bit over and you really have to look for a casino where they give away cars as the top prize.

Cooperation with well-known car brands or local garages

A Las Vegas casino explains why they no longer give away a car every month to a winner at the casino. Cars have become a lot more expensive and also in America the margins in casinos are under pressure. If there is a promotion where you can win a car, it is a partnership. So the car is often sponsored.

A casino in Las Vegas often sees thousands of visitors a day pass by especially during peak season. This is of course the ultimate advertising especially for big car brands. We often see American car brands being given away. But these are not paid for by the casino. For example, you can think of a Chevrolet Corvette Z51 on display in the casino.

Chances of winning the car are very small

A promotion to win a car in Las Vegas is of course organized primarily as a promotion to get as many players as possible to gamble on the car. But in practice, only one car is given away. So out of all the players who come to gamble, only one player actually goes home with the car. If, like us, you live in the Netherlands, that still has some issues. But the chance of actually winning a car in Las Vegas is quite small.

You have to think of a 1 in a million chance approximately. It happens sometimes only once every month or two months that a player actually wins a car.

So it really doesn’t happen very often that players go home with a car in Las Vegas. The promotion is really too expensive to award a car very often. You really have to be very lucky to win the car. Plus there are quite a few costs involved if you actually manage to win the car.

Fortunately, at most casinos you can also choose to pay out the money instead of the car. This is usually a lower amount than the catalog value, so keep this in mind.
