Volkswagen surprises: ID.2 scrapped and the Polo returns!

September 4, 2025

Volkswagen ID. Polo

Volkswagen is turning its name strategy on its head. The ID.2all, which everyone thought would go into production as the ID.2, will not receive that name. It will soon appear in the showroom as ID. Polo. With this, Volkswagen is opting for a middle ground: the modern ID. family will remain, but it will be linked to familiar names that have been around for decades.

Familiar and innovative

It is not really very surprising that Volkswagen is not throwing familiar names like Polo and Golf in the trash. These names sit deep in the memory of motorists. For many, they have been their first car, or the symbol of reliable solidity. By pairing the electric ID. models with such familiar names, Volkswagen hopes to make the switch to electric driving a little more accessible.

Premiere in Munich

The first ever ID. Polo and the sporty ID. Polo GTI will be at the IAA Mobility in Munich. For now still in camouflage suit, but the direction is clear: electric driving gets a familiar face as well as a sporty side.

Crossbreeding with the ID. Cross

As if that were not enough, Volkswagen is also pulling the curtain off the ID. Cross Concept. This compact SUV will enter the market as a production version in 2026 and will be the electric counterpart to the T-Cross. With it, Volkswagen is specifically targeting the lower segments, in which there is great demand for affordable models. AutoRAI.nl will be present at the show, so keep an eye on our YouTube channel.
