January 31, 2024

6-cylinder in-line for BMW M4 2024

The BMW M4 Coupe and BMW M4 Convertible with six-speed manual transmission already offer maximum power of 353 kW (480 hp). In the BMW M4 Competition Coupe with 8-speed M Steptronic transmission, the engine reaches an output 375 kW (510 hp). The maximum output of the 6-cylinder in-line engine in the new BMW M4 Competition Coupe with M xDrive and in the new BMW M4 Competition Convertible with M xDrive has increased to 390 kW (530 hp) at 6,250 rpm, a plus of 20 hp in other words. Maximum torque peaks at 650 Nm between 2,750 and 5,730 rpm. The higher performance was achieved through modifications in electronic engine controls.

Performance BMW M4 2024

The BMW M4 Competition Coupe accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, while the BMW M4 Competition Convertible takes 3.7 seconds to do so. All versions of the BMW M4 have a limited top speed of 250 km/h. With the M Driver’s Pack, that can be increased to 280 km/h (BMW M4 Competition Convertible) or 290 km/h (BMW M4 Competition Coupe). Shifting is done with an 8-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission with Drivelogic or a new manual transmission.

Four-wheel drive

The most powerful version of the 6-cylinder in-line engine is combined with intelligent all-wheel drive M xDrive. The driver can customize the all-wheel drive set-up through a the 4WD or 4WD Sport driving modes, the latter of which directs a greater portion of the tractive power to the rear wheels. In addition, a 2WD driving program is available with DSC deactivated. Then it is purely rear-wheel drive.

M suspension

The very high torsional stiffness of the body and suspension creates the right conditions for energizing agility and direct response to steering inputs. An M-specific tuning of the dual front suspension and the five-wheel suspension of the rear wheels provides a good balance between extreme driving dynamics and comfort. Three tunings for the adaptive M suspension can be selected via the M Setup menu. Other components of the suspension technology include M Servotronic steering and the integrally controlled braking system that applies to both the standard M Compound brakes and the optional M Carbon ceramic brakes.

M Dynamic Mode

Among other things, the suspension and all-wheel drive were tested on the Nürburgring Nordschleife for highly dynamic and precisely controllable handling, even in daily use on public roads. DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) in M Dynamic Mode allows wheel slip to be set in ten steps. The M Traction Control feature, available as an option for the BMW M4 Coupe and standard on all Competition models, allows the driver to adjust the degree of intervention in increments to gently push the limits when driving on the track. The M Lap Timer and the M Drift Analyzer provide features to further explore the character of these high-performance models as ultimate driving machines.

Wheels

The BMW M4 Coupe and the new BMW M4 Competition Coupe both have standard 18-inch forged alloy M wheels at the front and 19-inch at the rear. For the BMW M4 Competition Coupe with M xDrive and the BMW M4 Competition Convertible with M xDrive, the dimensions are 19 inches and 20 inches, respectively. The wheels are distinguished by a double-spoke design and feature a silver finish for the first time.

Driver assistance systems BMW M4 2024

With the M Mode switch on the center console, the driver assistance systems can be adjusted for ultra sporty driving. In the optionally available TRACK driving program, for example, comfort- and safety-oriented systems are completely disabled. Equipment on the new BMW M4 Coupe and the new BMW M4 Convertible includes Park Distance Control with front and rear sensors, Cruise Control with braking function, Front Collision Warning with braking intervention, Lane Departure Warning including Lane Return function with steering assistance and Traffic Sign Recognition with Speed Limit Info and No Overtaking Indicator. Optional equipment for the Competition models includes Steering and Lane Guidance Assistant with Automatic Speed Limit Assist, Lane Keeping Assistant and Traffic Light Recognition as well as Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function as part of the Driving Assistant Professional. The Parking Assistant enables automatic parking when entering and exiting a parking space and also includes the Reversing Assistant.

New headlight design and taillights with laser technology

The newly designed headlights stand out because of a modified internal structure. Low and high beam are now provided by the same LED module. Two vertical LED units, each in a spear-shaped layout, act as daytime running lights and turn signals. The overall design provides a more sophisticated and progressive look. Adaptive LED headlights with anti-glare Matrix high beam are optional. These are identified by the blue inserts and are equipped with city and cornering lights. The city light feature provides greater visibility of the area next to the road at speeds below 30 km/h on roads recognized by the navigation system as within the built-up area. Along with the adaptive LED headlights, M Shadow Line offers dark accents in the lamp units.

The adaptive LED headlights are accompanied by the technologically impressive design of the LED taillights with laser technology. Laser diodes produce uniform illumination of fiberglass beams, creating a fascinating lighting design. The sophisticated, three-dimensional light display stems from a technology first used on the BMW M4 CSL, of which 1,000 were produced.

BMW logo

The area around the BMW logo and the M logo at the rear is of a new design on Competition models. The BMW logo is embedded in a finish of high-gloss black. The BMW M GmbH brand logo now appears against a silver background. Optional special M Design graphics are available for the hood and luggage compartment lid in high-gloss black or high-gloss red. The optional steel roof in high-gloss black is available at no extra charge and offers an electrically opening glass sunroof.

Interior BMW M4 2024

The standard leather-trimmed multifunction M Sport steering wheel, with two M switches and shift paddles for Competition models offers the driver a more circuit-oriented feel. The new design includes a flattened underside of the steering wheel and modified spokes. In addition, there is a red 12 o’clock marker. In addition, the Alcantara-clad M Sport steering wheel is available for the first time in the same design and with the same control functions. Steering wheel heater is optional for both steering wheels. The M-specific cockpit also includes a control panel on the center console with the transmission lever or switch, the red start/stop button, the BMW iDrive Controller and the Setup and M Mode switches.

The dashboard trim, control panel and cup holder cover are now standard in Dark Graphite matte. Trim strips in Aluminum Rhombicle Anthracite and in “Carbon Fibre” are now optionally available for the BMW M4 Coupe and BMW M4 Convertible. The instrument panel is optionally available in Sensatec trim.

M Sport seats

Electrically adjustable and heatable M Sport seats with memory function are standard. There are illuminated model logos in the integrated headrests. Seat ventilation is optional. Leather Merino upholstery is standard. The extended leather upholstery BMW Individual Merino and the full leather upholstery BMW Individual Merino are available in four different colors.

M Carbon bucket seats

The optional and also fully electrically adjustable and heatable M Carbon bucket seats provide an optimal connection between driver and car. They are 9.6 kilograms lighter than the standard M Sport seats thanks to the use of carbon-reinforced plastic elements in the seat and backrest and through openings in sides and under the headrests.

Interior

Air Collar System

An Air Collar system can be ordered as an exclusive option for the BMW M4 Competition Convertible with M xDrive. This delivers a three-position adjustable flow of warm air around the neck of both driver and passenger. This makes open driving in colder weather even more enjoyable.

BMW Curved Display and New BMW Operating System 8.5

The BMW M4 Coupe and new BMW M4 Convertible models now also offer the high-resolution BMW Curved Display, consisting of 12.3-inch display behind the steering wheel and subsequent 14.9-inch control display. The display and control system also offer the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with touch and voice controls, now based on the BMW Operating System 8.5 with an M-specific display.

Fewer physical switches

The more digital controls reduce the number of physical switches in the cockpit. Standard Ambient Lighting now offers illuminated central air vents, as well as lighting for the footwells and storage compartments in the center console and door handles. Color and intensity of lighting can be adjusted to individual preference. There are nine different colors to choose from. The interior lighting also offers atmospheric Welcome and Goodbye light scenarios, as well as indications of an improperly closed door or an incoming phone call.

BMW Live Cockpit Professional

Equipment also includes the BMW Live Cockpit Professional with the cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps. Also standard is the BMW Head-up Display, which in an M-specific style projects driving information onto the windshield including RPM, shift indicator and M View. In addition, the BMW Live Cockpit Professional includes two USB ports as well as Smartphone Integration, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless charging can be done with compatible smartphones. A HiFi sound system with ten speakers and a 250W amplifier are part of the standard equipment of the new BMW M4 Coupe and new BMW M4 Convertible.

M Carbon Exterior pack, M Race Track pack and BMW M Performance Parts

An M Carbon Exterior pack further enhances the racing character of both models. It consists of inserts for the wide front air intakes, a rear diffuser and specific exterior mirror caps. Furthermore, in the case of the BMW M4 Coupe, it offers a carbon-reinforced plastic rear spoiler. The optional M Race Track pack provides a vehicle weight reduction of 25 kg thanks to M Carbon ceramic brakes, M Carbon bucket seats for driver and passenger and High Gloss Carbon Fibre interior trim.

BMW Performance Parts provide even more options to further personalize the intense driving experience and driving dynamics of these new high performance models. These include numerous components of carbon-reinforced plastic M wheels made of forged aluminum with center wheel nuts, M Performance floor mats and M Performance steering wheel rim trim.
