CEO Opel speaks out

“The new generation Grandland marks a new milestone for Opel,” said Florian Huettl, CEO of Opel. “With its arrival, from now on every Opel will be available with all-electric drive – an important step in our electric offensive. The new Grandland was designed and developed in Rüsselsheim and is produced in Eisenach. In addition, the relationship to the Opel Experimental is unmistakable. The new Grandland offers the innovations first seen on this extraordinary concept car and thus strengthens our position in the important C-SUV segment.”

Opel Grandland dimensions

The new Opel Grandland has a length of 4.65 meters, a width of 1.90 meters and a height of 1.66 meters. This makes the model 173 mm longer, 19 mm higher and 64 mm wider than its predecessor. The car sits on 20-inch alloy wheels. The long wheelbase of 2.78 meters and the steep tailgate highlight the increased space in the cabin and trunk area. The rear seat can be folded down in parts (40/20/40), with the maximum cargo volume growing to 1,641 liters.

STLA Medium

The SUV is the first Opel to use Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform, which was developed basically for battery-electric propulsion. With its new architecture, new battery with a capacity of up to 98 kWh, new generation electric motor and energy-saving features such as a heat pump, the Opel Grandland Electric guarantees a locally emission-free range of up to around 700 kilometers (WLTP). In addition, short charging times are possible thanks to the DC fast charge function that allows the battery to charge to 80% in just 26 minutes.

Interior

In the interior, occupants of the new Opel Grandland are greeted by bold elements combined with a warm and attractive ambience. The interior is designed with a horizontal theme. The lines continue from the instrument panel into the doors, enhancing the feeling of width and spaciousness. At the same time, a touch of sportiness is applied with the central 16-inch display screen that is angled slightly toward the driver. The driver has a view of a wide and fully digital instrument cluster that displays all essential information. The Intelli-HUD head-up display not only provides additional safety by not requiring the driver to take their eyes off the road, but also allows the rider to enjoy the driving experience more.

Thus, it is possible to activate Pure Mode manually or automatically. This feature reduces the content of the instrument cluster, HUD and central display. This reduces distractions while driving, especially at night and in low visibility situations. As usual with Opel, frequently used settings such as climate control can still be operated intuitively with physical buttons.

To further emphasize the width in the interior, the vents are now integrated into the door panels, rather than on either side of the dashboard. The top of the instrument panel has a nice technical look and is aesthetically divided into two surfaces to emphasize the overall tone of the design. Among these, the Edge Light, based on the same technology as the 3D Vizor, adds a precise glass-like execution of color and light, supported by the attractive indirect ambient light on the instrument panel and door trim. The center section of the instrument panel is covered in fabric and visually flows into the shoulders of the doors, creating an attractive and tactile cockpit.

New seats for Opel Grandland

Drivers can also count on additional driving involvement, thanks in part to Opel’s ergonomic seats certified by AGR (Aktion Gesunder Rücken). These also have a new comfort feature: electrically adjustable side supports. This feature significantly improves lateral comfort thanks to two pneumatic pockets in the side supports. The seats also offer ventilation and massage for the driver. Meanwhile, rear passengers enjoy 20 mm of extra legroom compared to the previous Grandland. Standard equipment now also includes the patented Intelli-Seat feature in the front seats – a slot that relieves pressure on the tailbone – that increases seating comfort on long trips. Furthermore, all the fabrics used in the interior are 100% recycled.

Pixel Box

The emphasis in developing this family car was on interior versatility. The goal was not only to provide numerous storage options, but also to find innovative solutions that make the lives of occupants easier, while improving comfort and well-being. A highlight in this area is the Pixel Box. With its illuminated, translucent glass and fabric trim, this element enhances the visual appeal of the center console while also being functional. Behind the glass is an induction charger for a smartphone. This allows devices to be charged wirelessly while safely stored. Constant smartphone visibility also helps prevent forgetting a smartphone when leaving the car. In total, the new Grandland offers more than 35 liters of storage space in the interior, ranging from the Pixel Box to the phone pockets in the front seat backrests and the large storage area including 12V socket under the center console.

Powertrains Opel Grandland

Opel delivers the new Grandland with a choice of different drive variants. Those not yet ready for the switch to all-electric propulsion can opt for the Opel Grandland Plug-in Hybrid with a locally emission-free range of up to 85 km (WLTP) or the Opel Grandland Hybrid with 48V technology.

Driver assistance systems

Rounding out the attractive offering of Opel’s new SUV is a wide range of intelligent driver assistance systems, including Automatic Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, comprehensive traffic sign recognition, intelligent speed adaptation and In Crash Braking. The latter is a system to (help) prevent a secondary collision in the event of an accident. The Intelli-Drive 2.0 system, which integrates and combines numerous electronic assistance systems with semi-automatic lane change and Recommended Speed Adaptation, is also available as an option. If the intended lane is clear, the assistant steers the Grandland into the desired lane with small steering maneuvers. Recommended Speed Adjustment ensures that – if confirmed by the driver – the vehicle’s speed is adjusted when a new speed limit applies. In addition to sensors, Intelli-Drive 2.0 also uses information from the over-the-air network. And parking and maneuvering are also simplified by front and rear parking assist, the rearview camera with auto-cleaning function and the 360-degree Intelli-Vision camera.

With its advanced new vehicle platform, innovative new technologies combined with numerous design features first seen on the Opel Experimental concept car, the new Opel Grandland comfortably takes the helm of Opel’s SUV offerings while adding a new level of all-electric freedom to Opel’s electrification strategy.
