This brilliant new Polestar feature should be in every car
Lane function
Polestar is the first automaker to be allowed to use Google Maps’ new live lane function. This allows you to know in time when to change lanes. No standard “turn right in 200 meters,” but really see which lane you are driving in, and which one you should be in.
How it works.
The car uses its own cameras and smart AI technology from Google to recognize road markings. The car’s cameras literally look with you, recognize lines on the asphalt and thus know not only which road you are driving on, but also the exact lane. Through Google’s data, the car knows if a lane is busy and so you shouldn’t wait too long to merge. You see on the display behind the wheel all the lanes for your route and the right one is subtly highlighted. In addition, you will hear a soft beep when you are almost too late to change lanes.
Polestar 4
The new feature makes its debut in the Polestar 4. The brand itself calls it a step toward a “more intuitive and relaxed driving experience.” We believe so, because with this system – if all goes well – the chances of a missed turn or a hasty lane change will be significantly reduced.
When?
Dutch Polestar owners will have to be patient for a while yet. The feature will first roll out in Sweden and the U.S. in the coming months, and will come to other markets later via an over-the-air update. In the video below, we tell you more about the new Polestar 4:
