Figures September 2022

Unfortunately for the auto industry, the registration figures are not yet very rosy. A total of 4.6 percent fewer new passenger cars were registered in the first three quarters of 2022 than in the same period in 2021. It involves a total of 224,944 new passenger cars in the period from January to September 2022, according to figures from BOVAG, RAI Association and RDC.

Lynk&Co 01 scores well!

The top five most registered models – or the most popular models – in September 2022 is quite extraordinary. Especially with a car from China taking the second position: the Lynk&Co 01 with a total of 801 units and a market share of 3.1 percent. Only the Peugeot 208 remained ahead of the Lynk&Co with 940 registrations and 3.6 percent market share. The Kia Niro finished in third place with 737 units (2.9 percent market share). The Kia Picanto ranked fourth with 695 units (2.7 percent market share), followed by the Toyota Aygo X with 619 units and 2.4 percent market share.

Lynk&Co 01

Five most popular car brands September 2022

Lynk&Co does not yet have any other models in the Netherlands, so although the brand scores extremely well with the 01, the car brand is not yet a match for brands such as Kia, Volkswagen, Toyota, Peugeot and Renault: the five most popular brands in September 2022. The figures are as follows:

  1. Kia: 2,711 registrations – 10.5 percent market share
  2. Volkswagen: 2,393 – 9.3 percent
  3. Toyota: 1,741 – 6.8 percent
  4. Peugeot: 1,594 – 6.2 percent
  5. Renault: 1,594 – 6.2 percent

Figures models January-September 2022

Of course, we also looked at the figures for the first three quarters of 2022. These are the most frequently registered models in the period January to September 2022:

  2. Kia Niro: 5,431 – 2.4 percent
  3. Kia Picanto: 5,241 – 2.3 percent
  4. Opel Corsa: 4,769 – 2.1 percent
  5. Volvo XC40: 4,755 – 2.1 percent

  2. Volkswagen: 17,655 – 7.8 percent
  3. Toyota: 16,963 – 7.5 percent

Auto sales forecast 2022

BOVAG and RAI Association expect between 300,000 and 320,000 new passenger cars to be registered throughout 2022. Last year, industry associations were still assuming 370,000 registrations for 2022. The numbers remain highly dependent on the ability of manufacturers to actually deliver the large number of vehicles already ordered. The auto industry continues to face supply problems due to global computer chip shortages, the war in Ukraine and other logistical disruptions.
