Replacing cameras Leidsche Rijntunnel

Until March 9, 2026, Rijkswaterstaat is carrying out work in the Leidsche Rijntunnel (A2) near Utrecht. “We are replacing the cameras, the intercom system and the fire extinguishing systems. These come from 2012 and are due for replacement,” the authority said. There are several weekend closures.

Weekend closures

A16: maintenance and renewal of Van Brienenoord bridge

Rijkswaterstaat: “The Van Brienenoord Bridge is more than half a century old. In that time, the bridge has been subjected to increasingly intensive loads due to more and heavier traffic. The bridge is therefore due for a thorough renovation. Until it is renewed, we are carrying out continuous maintenance so that road users can continue to use the bridge safely.”

The current expectation is that the work with disruption to road and shipping traffic will begin in 2029 and be completed by 2035. The exact schedule will be worked out further with the contractor(s) over the next few years. So in 2026 there will be no disruption.

N915: renovation Bridge over the North

Rijkswaterstaat: “The Bridge over the North (N915), also known as Alblasserdam Bridge, was built in 1939 and is located over the North River. The bridge’s technical installations and systems are in need of replacement due to age. Thanks to the renovation, the Bridge over the North will remain safe, reliable and available in the future.”

Sixteen-day closure to all traffic February to March 2026

From Friday evening, February 13 (10 p.m.) to Monday morning, March 2 (5 a.m.), the Bridge over the North will be closed to all traffic for 16 consecutive days. Vehicular traffic will be diverted via the adjacent North Tunnel (A15). Please allow for an additional travel time of 5 to 10 minutes. The transport of hazardous materials (ADR) is not allowed through the North tunnel in the A15 and is therefore diverted via the:

A12: major maintenance on concrete IJssel bridge in 2026

Rijkswaterstaat is carrying out major maintenance on the concrete IJssel bridge in the A12 near Arnhem in the spring of 2026. The maintenance is necessary to keep the bridge in good condition. We urge road users to avoid the A12 during this period as much as possible. Allow for an extra travel time of approximately 60 minutes.

Major maintenance implementation: two lanes per direction available

Tuesday, April 7 to Thursday, May 14, 2026

During the work, traffic cannot cross the concrete bridge. Traffic in both directions will be diverted via the steel bridges of the A12. This means that instead of four lanes in each direction, two lanes in each direction will be available to traffic. A speed limit of 70 km/h also applies.

Please allow for additional travel time of approximately 60 minutes. We advise road users to avoid the A12 as much as possible during the works.

The overview below shows the large-scale detour from Germany in connection with work on the IJssel Bridge:

A58: major maintenance Vlaketunnel

In April 2026, Rijkswaterstaat is carrying out major maintenance on the Vlaketunnel in the A58 near Kapelle. The tunnel will be completely closed to traffic in both directions for ten days.

April 9 – April 20, 2026

We are performing major maintenance on the Flat Tunnel. The tunnel will be closed to traffic from Thursday, April 9, 9 p.m. to Monday, April 20, 2026, 05 a.m. There will be detours.

Road traffic

Allow for extra travel time that can exceed 60 minutes during rush hour. So travel smart: for example, choose alternative transportation, work from home when possible and avoid rush hour.

Maintenance on the Vlaketunnel consists of several works. Both tunnel tubes are being worked on at the same time to keep the closure as short as possible.

A44: bridge and viaduct replacement

The A44 between Haarlemmermeer and Wassenaar was built in the 1930s. The Kaagbrug and the viaducts Lisserweg, Hoofdvaart and the Railroad Viaduct are in need of replacement. Construction of the Lisserweg viaduct and the Kaagbrug bridge will start in 2026. The planned multi-day closure of the A44 in early March will be postponed to the end of June 2026.

Traffic situation 2026

A15: maintenance Maasvlakte – Vaanplein

The asphalt on the A15 is end of life and needs to be replaced. The risk of emergency repairs is becoming too great. “This is why we are replacing the asphalt in several places. In this way, the road, also in the future, remains safe and available,” said Rijkswaterstaat.

Maintenance work will take place between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. the following morning throughout the year, including replacing/repairing the asphalt on short stretches of the A15. These are such short stretches that the impact on traffic is minimal. Closure of these stretches of road will be indicated on site with yellow signs.

A2: major maintenance Everdingen – Deil

Rijkswaterstaat: “We are carrying out major maintenance on the A2 freeway between Everdingen and Deil junctions towards ‘s-Hertogenbosch in 2026. The maintenance is necessary because the road surface is reaching the end of its service life. We are replacing the asphalt with quieter asphalt over a stretch of 14 km. We are also carrying out maintenance on crash barriers, signs, bridges, viaducts and service station Bisde near Beesd.”

Monday, September 7, 05:00 – Friday, October 16, 2026 9:00 p.m.

The additional travel time is about 60 minutes.

A50: improving traffic flow and safety between Nijmegen and Oss

The A50 Paalgraven-Bankhoef-Ewijk has been in the national traffic jam top 10 for years. Many accidents also happen on this stretch. The study examines possible measures to improve traffic flow and road safety on this section of the A50. Preparatory work may already be carried out in 2026, although 2027 is now mainly mentioned.

Reinforcement Vooroever Andijk: Jan. 12 to March 24, 2026

Between January 12 and March 24, 2026, Rijkswaterstaat will repair the layer of landform stones at the recreational area Vooroever Andijk. These stones protect the area against high water during storms. To protect the Vooroever in the future, we are placing extra stones. We will also realize a new passage between the swimming lake and the Kreek.

The work will take place from Jan. 12 through March 24 on the north side of the recreation area. They consist of removing the vegetation on the existing landforms and installing new landforms. These will be placed on the bank by crane from the walkway.

A30: major maintenance Barneveld – Lunteren: Jan. 30 to July 27, 2026

Rijkswaterstaat is carrying out major maintenance on the A30 between Barneveld and Lunteren from January 30, 9 p.m. to July 27, 05 a.m. 2026. In connection with the work, the A30 will be closed at various times in southern or northern direction between the junction with the A1 to Ede-Noord. During the work a lot of traffic disruption is expected. Keep in mind detour and extra travel time up to 60 minutes.

A variety of work is being performed on the road, including asphalt replacement, ground and foundation work, installation of markings and overpass repair.

Stormwater drainage will also be renewed. The work is necessary because the road is at the end of its useful life. The major maintenance will not only restore the quality of the road, but also ensure a better and safer road and shoulder environment.

A30 closures

Friday, Jan. 30, 9 p.m. to Monday, Feb. 2, 5 a.m.

A traffic system will be installed this weekend to direct traffic over narrowed lanes during the work starting Feb. 2.

Monday, Feb. 2, 05 a.m. to Monday, May 18, 9 p.m.

Monday, May 18, 9 p.m. to Monday, July 27, 5 a.m.

Detour and additional travel time

During the closures, traffic will be diverted via the A1/A28/A27/A12 and the A1/A50/A12. Signs along and above the road indicate the detour routes. Please allow up to 60 minutes extra travel time.

Roadwork 2026

A20: major maintenance between Maasdijk and Gouda

The asphalt on the A20 between the Westerlee junction near Maasdijk and the Gouwe junction near Gouda is in need of replacement. That is why we are carrying out major maintenance here between April 2026 and May 2027 on various sections and renewing the asphalt. In this way we are extending the life of the road surface and ensuring the safe flow of traffic. There are too many road closures to list. Check this page.

N210: major maintenance Algera bridge

Rijkswaterstaat: “We are carrying out urgent and necessary major maintenance on the bridge deck of the Algera Bridge between Krimpen aan den IJssel and Capelle aan den IJssel. We are also resurfacing the fixed bridge section. This is how we keep the bridge safe and available.”

The closure of the Algera Bridge to road traffic will start immediately after the work on the A20 in the summer of 2026. Before that, work is already taking place on the underside of the bridge valve. This will not interfere with road traffic, but it will interfere with high-speed shipping.

Tholen bridge: seven closures; January and February 2026

Rijkswaterstaat is carrying out maintenance on the Tholen Bridge in January and February 2026. Therefore, the bridge will be closed to road traffic for seven evenings and nights. Traffic will be diverted via the Oester dam. Please take extra travel time into account.

The Tholen Bridge will be closed in both directions on the nights of:
