Record: that’s how much more you pay at a highway pump now compared to a regular pump
Fuel up? Stay off the highway
Gas stations along the highway now charge an average of 18.7 cents per liter more than their counterparts at regular locations. That’s according to MultiTankcard’s latest analysis, based on hundreds of thousands of transactions from January through May 2025. A record difference. In 2022 the gap was still at 14.3 cents, last year at 17.5 cents – so the line is happily rising.
Most expensive gas stations
In Friesland, you fill up most expensively. Or rather on the Wadden Islands – most of which fall under Friesland. On Ameland, in Hollum, a liter of E10 gasoline was charged for an average of €2.2979. Other Frisian villages like Tzummarum, Midsland and Nes are also in the top.
Limburg among the cheapest for the first time
Those who want to fill their tank somewhat inexpensively should head south. For the first time in years, Limburg appears in the top three cheapest petrol towns. In Oostrum you tap gasoline for an average of €1.7665, in Heide for €1.7758. Zeeland also participates, with Koewacht as the third cheapest municipality (€1,7732).
Do you really want to score the cheapest liter? Then go to Joontjes Kreditank in Steenwijk (Overijssel): €1.7428 per liter. Also cheap: Kuster Energy in Ulft (Gelderland) and Fieten Olie (also Steenwijk). All outside the Randstad, in other words.
And diesel?
The difference is also worth it for diesel drivers. The cheapest you can fill up with diesel at TinQ in Hengelo for an average of €1.5125. Followed by Denekamp and remarkably also a pump in Rotterdam. So even in the Randstad you can sometimes fill up affordably – if you know where to go.
