Poop or pee in the car? Chinese car manufacturer patents toilet in car!

April 20, 2026

Toilet nicely clogged

The idea is as bizarre as it is ingenious. The toilet does not sit pontifically in the middle of your interior, but is hidden in the empty space under the passenger seat. Via an ingenious rail system, the toilet slides out when the need arises. And because we live in 2026, of course this is not done with a simple lever. You can activate the system by pressing a button or – yes – by voice control. One command and your throne conjures up.

What about the … “experience”?

Of course, this immediately raises questions about odor and hygiene. Seres has thought about that in the patent. The patent also has an extraction system: a special fan and an exhaust pipe should guide unpleasant odors directly outside. The system further includes a rotating heating element that evaporates urine and dries solid waste to minimize bacteria and odors. What remains goes into a sealed tank that you must manually empty periodically (the least fun chore of the week).

Gadget war in China

Why on earth would a manufacturer patent this? The Chinese EV market is currently a veritable battlefield. Brands are trying to outdo each other with the craziest extras to get noticed. We already saw built-in karaoke sets, refrigerators and massage chairs with “hot stone” functions. A toilet is then the ultimate step for the avid camper or the inveterate traffic jam driver.

Are we really going to see this?

Although the patent has been officially approved, this does not mean that the next Aito M9 will come with a porcelain throne by default. There are quite a few snags:
