Opel Frontera now also as a seven-seater: the more souls, the more joy

August 5, 2025

And that’s good news for larger families, soccer teams and for you, if you’re looking for appropriate transportation for your daughter’s children’s party. So then, there is the Opel Frontera GS.

Opel Frontera: a spacious SUV without a spacious SUV price

The Opel Frontera has been around for a while, but it was presented earlier last year as a new compact family SUV. Now there is a third row of seats, so the car is basically a lot more versatile. But, there is no versatile choice. As a seven-seater, the Frontera can only be ordered as a mild hybrid in the GS trim. Is that a shame?

To answer that question, let’s take a look at the price of this seven-seat Frontera. You can buy a Frontera Hybrid GS starting at 33,499 euros. But, then you’re not quite there yet. The seven-seat package is available at an additional cost of 799 euros. So, for 34,298 euros you’ll take everyone in the back of this Vauxhall.

That’s nothing to be ashamed of. Especially not when you consider that stablemate Citroën offers the seven-seat C3 Aircross starting at an almost the same price of 33,299 euros. You then also get a hybrid powertrain and the C3 in the Plus trim. The Max trim on the C3 is slightly more expensive at 35,399 euros. So the Frontera is in between as a GS version. In short, the promise Opel made with the Frontera at its introduction remains. It is and will remain competitively priced.

The choice is … not vast?

The seven-seater will come (for now) only as a Frontera GS with mild hybrid powertrain. That means an economical gasoline engine with 48V system and automatic transmission. Prefer fully electric? That is also possible, but then you are dependent on the Frontera Electric. It is coming to the Netherlands, but for now only as a five-seater. So, for now, you will only need the Frontera GS Hybrid if you want seven seats.

Or yet: an additional variant in the Opel Frontera

The gaping hole between five and seven is formed by the number six. Guess what? A six-seat configuration is also an option.

In fact, the third row of seats consists of two seats that can be folded down, independently of each other. Therefore, should the party be slightly smaller, but the need for luggage slightly larger, this is no problem. With one seat upright and one down, you can easily take extra suitcases and bags with you. Of course, both seats can also be folded down at the same time, giving you a generous 460 liters of luggage space. If that’s not enough, you can also fold down the rear seat. Then suddenly we are talking about 1,600 liters.

In short: actually convenient

So no, it is not a pity that Opel can only offer the Frontera GS as a seven-seater. In fact, it is a step in the right direction. Who knows, maybe other variants, also with the electric powertrain, will follow later.
