Opel: “From 2026/27 season we will drive in FIA Formula E World Championship”
Opel GSE Formula E Team
The announcement was made during a press conference at the Jarama circuit in Spain, where Opel CEO Florian Huettl and Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds announced the news. “The participation in Formula E marks a new milestone for Opel on its way to an electric future,” said Opel CEO Florian Huettl. “With the arrival of the GEN4 race cars, this is the ideal time to step in. The Opel GSE Formula E Team shows what the brand stands for: German engineering, distinct design and electrified performance. That also applies to models such as the Mokka GSE and soon the new Corsa GSE.”
New factory team
Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E said, “With Opel, Formula E welcomes a strong new factory team. The brand brings technical expertise, a clear identity and a rich motorsport history. Its participation shows how important Formula E is for carmakers in the transition to all-electric mobility.”

Formula E GEN4 are particularly powerful
For Opel, participation in Formula E is a logical next step within electric motor racing. The introduction of the GEN4 cars in this championship marks an important technological leap in this regard. The all-electric race cars deliver power of up to 600 kW (816 hp) in qualifying and Attack mode. That is a whopping 250 kW (340 hp) more than before.
In addition, they feature permanent all-wheel drive, providing more grip and better performance on the track. Energy recovery also increases to a maximum of 700 kW, which contributes to higher efficiency and increased range. Formula E thus becomes faster, more powerful and more competitive.

Preparation and technical development
Testing with the new generation of race cars is now in full swing in Europe. At the same time, Opel is building its own team. Under the leadership of Jörg Schrott, Team Principal of the Opel GSE Formula E Team and Director Opel Motorsport, it is preparing for the start of the season, with specialists in vehicle development, strategy and operational matters.
The Opel GSE Formula E Team thereby benefits from Stellantis Motorsport’s experience in developing the GEN4 cars. At the same time, Opel is applying its own German engineering to the project. “What started five years ago with the first electric rally cup is now reaching a climax with participation in an FIA World Championship,” says Jörg Schrott,

Strong foundation in electric rallying
In 2021, Opel introduced the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup, the world’s first electric branded rally cup. In it, young rally talents get the chance to show their skills with the emission-free Opel Corsa Rally Electric. Winners earn a place on the ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team and advance to the Junior European Rally Championship.
The start of the 2026/27 rally season is extra special; the GSE Rally Cup will be run with the new Opel Mokka GSE Rally. Delivering up to 207 kW (281 hp) and 345 Nm of torque, this electric rally car is more than twice as powerful as the Corsa Rally Electric and offers Rally4-level performance.
Technology from rally racing is also finding its way into production models. The Opel Mokka GSE offers a sporty driving experience and reaches speeds of up to 200 km/h. The model was awarded the “Golden Steering Wheel 2025” in Germany. The model shares important high-voltage components and various technical solutions with the rally version.

Decades of motorsports experience
Opel has broad experience in both professional and amateur racing. Activities range from the World Rally Championship to track racing in Formula Opel, Formula 3 and DTM, among others. With its participation in Formula E from the 2026/27 season, Opel is taking the next step in top-level electric motor racing.
OMG! GSE: performance and experience
With the ‘OMG! GSE’, Opel presents its high-performance electric models. GSE stands for ‘Grand Sport Electric’ and indicates extra sporty versions. The introduction of the Mokka GSE will be followed by the Corsa GSE in 2026. This will create a clear link between racing cars and models for public roads. Prior to the new, thirteenth season of Formula E, the Opel GSE Formula E Team will make its first public appearance during the official GEN4 launch in April at the Paul Ricard circuit in Le Castellet, to also present additional details.
