November 30, 2022

Opel Astra Electric: specifications

The electric motor of the new Opel Astra Electric and Astra Sports Tourer Electric produces an output of 115 kW (156 hp) and a maximum torque of 270 Nm. The top speed is capped at 170 km/h, allowing the Astra Electric to go faster than many other electric models. But whether that’s smart to drive 170 mph with an EV? Not really, the battery pack would be so empty. Drivers can choose from Eco, Normal and Sport driving modes.

Opel Astra Electric battery pack

The Astra Electric has a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 54 kWh. The battery uses 102 cells housed in 17 modules. The Astra Electric’s battery pack is mounted in the bottom of the car, eliminating the loss of seating and luggage space. The range of the Astra Electric comes out to 416 kilometers (WLTP). The average energy consumption of the Astra Electric is 12.7 kWh/100 km (14.9 kWh according to WLTP).

The Opel Astra Electric is suitable for fast charging (DC) with a power of up to 100 kW, which allows the battery to be charged to 80% in a time of about 30 minutes. Even at an AC charging point, the battery is quick to charge thanks to the standard 3-phase 11 kW on-board charger.

Luggage space

In the case of the Astra Sports Tourer Electric, the luggage compartment has a capacity of 516 liters, which is easily expanded to 1,553 liters by folding down the rear seats. On the outside, the car is identified by a sportier-designed front bumper and standard 18-inch alloy wheels in diamond-cut or all-black finish.

Equipment

The new Opel Astra Electric is equipped with ergonomic sports seats – optionally available with Alcantara upholstery. These AGR-certified seats offer good lateral support and a wide range of manual and electric adjustment options, according to Opel. The car further features the all-digital Pure Panel cockpit with two 10-inch widescreen displays. A large E-HUD head-up display and natural voice recognition have also been considered.

Driver assistance systems

Safety equipment includes collision warning with automatic braking to active lane assist, fatigue detection, rear cross traffic alert and semi-automatic lane change. All these systems, as well as the adaptive Intelli-Lux LED Pixel Light headlights with 168 LED elements, are bundled under the name Intelli-Drive 2.0.

Spring 2023

The new Opel Astra Electric will be available to order from spring 2023. This makes the Astra available with more powertrain variants than any other Opel. Currently, the Astra is already available with a choice of efficient gasoline and diesel engines and a plug-in hybrid. The launch of the battery-electric version completes the diverse range.
