Van Electric Architecture forms basis for VLS and VLE

Mercedes-Benz is planning an entire model family on Van Electric Architecture (VAN.EA). “The future model portfolio of Grand Limousines – featuring the Mercedes-Benz VLE and Mercedes-Benz VLS – will range from flexible family cars and exclusive VIP shuttles to luxury limousines,” the manufacturer said.

The Mercedes-Benz Vision V Concept Car is upscale. It has a large, automatically opening “portal door” on the right side and an illuminated, retractable running board. The interior is altogether a feast for the eyes. One of the highlights of the ‘Private Lounge’ seating area is the retractable 65-inch cinema screen – with split-screen functions – located under the floor. Once passengers are inside and the doors are closed, the screen slides up from a console finished in burr walnut and Nappa leather.

Cinema screen with 4K resolution

Transparent slats in the floor allow passengers to follow how the screen slides out, separating the Private Lounge area from the driver’s area. The cinema screen has a resolution of 4K. The surround sound system with Dolby Atmos provides spacious sound. It offers a total of 42 speakers, including exciters in the seats, which make listening to music a haptic experience.

Zven projectors

Seven projectors in the headliner and floor increase the field of view. The side windows turn into additional “screens,” providing a digital 360-degree experience. This unique cocoon effect is further enhanced by turning on ambient lighting when occupants are listening to music. The lighting adjusts the colors displayed to the rhythm of the music. The 65-inch cinema screen is controlled via the touchpad in the center console, allowing it to be moved in and out.

Privacy

Like the partition to the driver’s area and the floor slats in the “Private Lounge,” the windows can be made opaque to emphasize the exclusive driver’s car character. The glass can change from transparent to various levels of desired opacity in milliseconds – for increased privacy, sun protection or to create dynamic surfaces for displaying digital content. The glass has tiny liquid crystals that align themselves using electrical voltage.

Seven interactive experience worlds

The Mercedes-Benz Vision V Concept Car has seven so-called interactive worlds of experience:

Entertainment: customers can sit back and enjoy the ride with a movie from the video carousel or by listening to favorite music tracks. In audio mode, a digital soundbar provides an impressive listening experience. The cinema screen can also be partially extended to serve as a digital interface for the soundbar.

Relax: After a stressful day, the seats can be put in the reclining position to relax. A soothing landscape gently moves across the cinema screen. This is accompanied by quiet music.

Gaming: for gaming enthusiasts, the limousine turns into a gaming hub, with the model offering, for example, racing games controlled by a controller.

Work: the “Private Lounge” transforms into a mobile office if desired, with the cinema screen becoming a virtual desk.

Shopping: whether customers buy tickets to a golf tournament or tennis event while traveling, or use the travel time to pick out a new ring or perfume; the interactive store presents the products as they would in a real store.

Discovery: get to know the environment while traveling. Information from the surround navigation is transmitted to the 65-inch cinema screen and realistically depicts the car’s surroundings using 3D game-engine graphics. Additional information is projected onto the camera image using augmented reality.

Karaoke: while driving, customers can sing their favorite song and imagine themselves in the Vision V in a karaoke bar.

Mercedes-Benz Vision V Concept: design exterior

The exterior design is at least as striking. This MPV has a substantial grille. By the way, this is illuminated with three horizontal, illuminated slats. Nearly 200 of these high-tech-looking light elements also surround the chrome trim. Another 190 or so illuminated slats are located in a prominent body opening under the hood. They frame the headlights on the sides. When passengers approach the Vision V, they are greeted by a dynamic light show in all the slats. A highlight is the brightly illuminated Mercedes star on the hood. The light elements under the headlights also serve as turn signals.

Large wheels

The 24-inch wheels of the Mercedes-Benz Vision V Concept also feature illuminated slats. The interplay of light and motion continues at the rear. There, the large rear window is framed by more than 450 three-dimensional illuminated slats that serve as taillights and brake lights.
