Man drives Ford Mustang into the water – but that’s exactly the point

November 4, 2025

Aqua Sport

At first glance, it looks like an ordinary Mustang, until it drives into a lake – and doesn’t stop. Instead of sinking, it calmly floats. This particular creation, the Ford Aqua Sport, is the hobby project of American Ford dealer Jim Eicher and his son. They built it based on a 1999 Mustang – for those in the know, an SN95, or the fourth generation of the iconic pony car.

No V8 roar

So quite a cool and playful project, only the powertrain is a bit disappointing. Under the hood is not a big V8, but a 500 cc twin-cylinder engine from a motorcycle. This does not make the Aqua Sport fast, but speed is probably not the goal here.

Floating technology

Under the body is a hydraulic system that delivers up to 2,000 psi to a propeller at the rear. With that, the Aqua Sport moves quietly across the water. Eicher says proudly, “It may not be a fast boat or a fast car, but it is one hundred percent amphibious. And everywhere I drive it into the water, people look on in amazement.”
