Excitement mounts: Tesla unveils new car tomorrow, here’s what we know
Teasler
On X, Tesla shared some short teaser videos this weekend. The first showed a close-up of something that looked like an aerodynamic rim, but once you play the video, it looks more like a fan blade. Next appeared a clip in which only the headlights of an unknown car light up, with the date “10/7” underneath.

Online, speculation immediately took off. Some experts think the new Tesla Roadster is finally making its appearance. The fan images could refer to active fans for extra downforce – similar to the McLaren F1, GMA T.50 and McMurtry Spéirling. Yet it seems more likely that it is the affordable Model Y, a version that has been spotted several times in recent months at the Gigafactory in Texas.

Affordable Model Y turns up more and more often
In recent weeks, more and more photos have surfaced of an unidentified Model Y variant without camouflage. The model closely resembles the current Model Y, but with subtle modifications. The nose resembles that of the updated
According to sources within Tesla, this is a slimmed-down version of the Model Y: simpler interior, less luxury, but with a more competitive price. Elon Musk previously hinted that the “affordable Tesla” is actually “a simplified Model Y.” In other words, not a completely new model, but a strategically downsized variant designed to make the electric SUV accessible to more people.

What does that cost?
By using existing production lines and parts, Tesla can cut costs significantly. Production of this version would reportedly be about 20 percent cheaper than that of the current Model Y, allowing Tesla to maintain its margins even with a lower selling price. Experts count on a starting price of just under $40,000. That’s about $5,000 less than a regular Model Y costs. So it won’t be really cheap, if this info turns out to be correct.
Roadster or not?
Yet some are still hoping for another unveiling: the new Tesla Roadster. But that seems unlikely. Indeed, the headlights in the teaser match those of the spotted affordable Model Y, so there is a good chance that Tuesday’s spotlight will not be on the hypercar, but on a more accessible SUV.
