The new Mercedes-Benz CLA EV represents a strategic change of direction within the star brand: instead of a separate EQ line, Mercedes-Benz is attempting with this model to focus directly on a version that is both technically innovative and recognizably “Mercedes-Benz.
MMA platform
On a technical level, the CLA does not disappoint. It is based on the new MMA platform, which is also suitable for later hybrid variants. The car combines a hefty battery capacity of 85 kWh with 800-volt architecture, which significantly reduces charging times. On paper, even 320 kW is possible with a DC fast charger. The aerodynamics are also impressive: a Cw value of 0.21 makes it among the most streamlined models.
Nearly 800 kilometers of driving range
The rear-wheel-drive version claims a range approaching 790 km; the all-wheel-drive version achieves slightly less, but remains in the order of 770 km. Multiple tests have already shown that the model approaches the factory specification in practice. Count on 13.2 kWh/100 km in practice.
Nicely balanced
Driving experience and tuning are chosen so that the CLA feels like a full-fledged Mercedes-Benz, without weird compromises. Handling is nicely balanced: sharp enough to tackle corners with confidence. Even thresholds pose no problem. In terms of design, Mercedes-Benz plays it safe; technically, the Germans pull out all the stops.
Price CLA 250+ Launch Edition
Cheap the CLA is not. The price of the CLA 250+ Launch Edition starts at 58,253 euros. However, you do get an electric car with an output of 200 kW (272 hp), an 85 kWh battery and a driving range of up to 773 kilometers. That, of course, is very impressive.
