EV Experience 2025: Kia EV5 electric alternative to Sportage

October 3, 2025

Kia EV5 operates in C-SUV segment

The Kia EV5 marks Kia’s entry into the important C-SUV segment within Europe, which currently represents the largest and fastest growing market segment. Based on the modular E-GMP platform, the model combines a distinct SUV design with broad usability and modern electric drive technology. The wishes of European motorists were expressly taken into account during development, with design, ease of use and technology at the center of the process.

‘Star Map’ light signature

The design of the EV5 follows Kia’s Opposites United design philosophy. This results in an angular and powerful silhouette with a distinct D-pillar and the recognizable Star Map light signature on both the front and rear. Depending on the trim level, the car is available with 18- or 19-inch wheels, with the GT-Line featuring its own exclusive 19-inch rim.

Practical ease of use

The interior is spacious and focused on practical use. The rear seats fold down completely, creating a flat cargo area with a maximum length of two meters. Clever storage solutions, such as a drawer in the center console, add to daily convenience. The seats are equipped with functions such as heating, ventilation and massage for the driver. In addition, the materials have been carefully chosen: recycled PET and paint without BTX chemicals, among others, ensure a more durable finish.

Powertrain Kia EV5

Propulsion is provided by an 81.4 kWh battery, good for a range of up to 530 kilometers according to the WLTP standard. Both the base version and GT-Line support fast charging, where the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in half an hour. The i-Pedal system enables single-pedal driving, while Smart Regeneration System Plus automatically responds to traffic situations by using navigation data. There is also an efficient heating and cooling system that maintains battery performance in a variety of weather conditions. Vehicle-to-Load allows the car to power electrical devices, and preparations have been made for Vehicle-to-Grid applications.

Infotainment

The EV5 also introduces new connectivity capabilities. The panoramic display combines a 12.3-inch instrument panel, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and a 5.3-inch climate display. The ccNC system uses over-the-air updates and provides access to the Kia Upgrades platform. Online Navigation keeps routes current with real-time information and monthly map updates. Comfort is further enhanced by three-zone climate control and an uncluttered control concept.

ADAS systems

In terms of convenience and security, several systems have been integrated. Digital Key 2.0 uses smartphones for access and start, while fingerprint recognition adds additional convenience. For audio, Kia partners with Harman Kardon. Safety equipment includes seven airbags, a reinforced body structure and the latest ADAS systems. For example, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist has been improved with customer feedback and Smart Cruise Control 2 can independently stop the vehicle if the driver does not respond. Parking systems have been extended to front and sides, and Highway Driving Assist 2 supports lane changes. Remote Smart Parking Assist allows the EV5 to be parked remotely.

Dimensions Kia EV5

In terms of dimensions, the EV5 measures 4.61 meters in length, 1.875 meters in width and 1.675 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2.75 meters. Luggage space is 566 liters, expandable to 1,650 liters with the rear seats folded down. An additional storage space of 44 liters is also available under the front lid. Power is 160 kW (218 hp), with torque of 295 Nm and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds. The maximum towing capacity is at 1,200 kilograms.
