Electric Aiways U6 or still a Volkswagen ID.5?

November 15, 2022

Running water

Like the Volkswagen ID.5, the Aiways U6 is a sporty SUV Coupe, yet the U6 looks just a little different from other models in this segment. You can safely call the Aiways challenging. First, the so-called X-type Shark Nose stands out, the substantial panoramic roof and a striking taillight matrix inspired by flowing water. Yep, we didn’t make that up ourselves.

Interior Aiways U6

The interior of the U6 is at least as striking, with cheerful colors, unique shapes and a hefty 14.6-inch horizontally positioned touchscreen. Naturally, ambient lighting has also been considered, as well as a sci-fi-inspired gearshift. Boring the U6 is anything but.

The new Aiways U6 will be available starting in the second quarter of 2023, but you can order it now. The car comes in only one version: the Prime. This has a starting price of 48,950 euros and has all the options. And what does the Volkswagen cost?

Price Volkswagen ID.5

The Volkswagen ID.5 is available starting at 50,890 euros. You then immediately get the Pro variant with 77 kWh battery. The range in practice comes out to 360 to 520 kilometers and fast charging is possible with 135 kW. The Pro is also already nicely packed.

Features Aiways U6 Prime

So does the Aiways U6 Prime represent a better offering compared to the ID.5? In terms of range, no. In fact, the Chinese SUV Coupe has a smaller battery: 63 kWh. Good for a WLTP range of 400 kilometers. The electric motor has an output of 218 hp and enables a 0-100 sprint of 7 seconds. A heat pump and three-phase charger is standard, as is a high-quality sound system with ten speakers and 21-inch alloy wheels.

This is also standard on the U6

Aiways also equips the U6 as standard with a 360-degree surround view camera and comprehensive safety equipment with systems such as adaptive cruise control, collision prevention system with pedestrian recognition, parking assist, lane assist, traffic jam assist and blind spot detection. With Volkswagen, you still have to pay extra for similar safety equipment. The same goes for a comprehensive infotainment system. A heat pump also costs extra. The price of the Volkswagen then quickly rises to 59,000 euros. The fact remains that the German has a greater range, but the Aiways is a bit cheaper.
