90 years of Jaguar: that calls for a cool photo and a new color

90 years of Jaguar

Jaguar is celebrating 90 years of design history with a special moment in London. For the first time, the very first namesake – the SS Jaguar of 1935 – and the latest design, the Type 00, are on display together. The SS Jaguar was groundbreaking in its day. The Type 00 is so again now, according to Jaguar. “The SS Jaguar gave the brand its name; the Type 00 shows where the brand is moving,” the manufacturer said.

Rawdon Glover, Managing Director, Jaguar, said, “Jaguar has always been a pioneer in originality – driven by design excellence and a resolute, forward-thinking spirit. Ahead of the launch of our first production model next year, it is important to showcase what makes Jaguar unique: bold, unexpected and uncompromisingly different. With the Type 00, we are challenging conventions, just as the SS Jaguar did at the time.”

Copy nothing

With its low roofline and long hood, the SS Jaguar departed decisively from the functional, rectangular designs prevalent at the time. That’s a tangent to the Type 00, which embodies Jaguar’s new brand philosophy: Copy nothing.

To celebrate 90 years of Jaguar, the brand has painted the Type 00 in London Red. This newly developed color was inspired by the warm hues of Victorian brick architecture in neighborhoods such as Kensington, the deep red walls of art galleries and icons such as red telephone booths and double-decker buses. We’ll hear more from Jaguar in 2026. That’s when the first production model will appear: a luxury GT.
