Polestar comes with XFC, what exactly is it?
Ultra-fast charging technology (XFC)
Polestar and StoreDot are working together to introduce their ultra-fast charging technology (XFC) for production cars in the near future. Dubbed “100-in-5,” this technology can top up 100 miles (160 km) of range in just five minutes. XFC stands for “Extreme Fast Charging.
The interesting thing about XFC is that the new charging technology can be integrated into battery packs of an existing size and requires no further modifications to the battery itself.
Polestar 5
Polestar is expected to introduce the technology in the Polestar 5, which is scheduled to hit the market during 2024. During Polestar Day in Los Angeles, StoreDot already demonstrated XFC’s charging capability with a prototype battery module.
Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, said, “StoreDot is making great strides in the development of their extremely fast charging technology. We are therefore proud to be an investor and partner in its evolution. StoreDot’s ultra-fast charging technology, combined with our new electric powertrain, can start to transform the user experience of Polestar drivers.”
‘Range anxiety’
Dr. Doron Myersdorf, CEO of StoreDot, said, “Polestar is one of our key investors and collaboration partners in the development of our XFC charging technology. Next year we will show how a battery module, developed at full scale by Polestar, can be charged with this technology. ‘Range anxiety’ is really going to be a thing of the past soon.”
