In detail: the new Hyundai Ioniq 9
Electric SUV with three rows of seats
“The Hyundai Ioniq 9 is made for customers looking for an electric SUV with three rows of seats. Accommodating up to seven people, it combines impressive space with smart features that respond to individual needs while providing a sense of belonging. Built to Belong. The Ioniq 9 is designed to meet the needs of consumers who always want to be online but also value space, tranquility and privacy,” said the South Korean manufacturer.
Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).
The Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) on which the Ioniq 9 is built allows for a flexible interior with a flat floor, giving occupants plenty of freedom of movement. The Relaxation Seats in the first and second rows can be fully reclined and have a leg rest for added comfort. This allows up to four people to relax optimally while charging. Headroom in the second and third rows of seats is a generous 1,042 and 1,008 mm and legroom, when the second and third rows of seats are combined, is 2,050 mm.
Dynamic Body Care function
The Relaxation Seats feature a special Dynamic Body Care function, a first for Hyundai. This system provides massage with pressure and vibration to improve blood circulation and reduce fatigue during long drives. Also convenient are the swivel seats in the second row. This allows the passengers in the second row of seats – when the car is stationary – to turn toward the passengers in the third row and face each other. This makes it easier to talk to each other and thus makes even better use of the space in the car.
Universal Island 2.0 console
The Hyundai Ioniq 9 is equipped with a Universal Island 2.0 console, which can slide forward and backward for additional (storage) space and convenience. In addition, a convenient walk-through can be created between the front seats. The console’s armrests can be opened from either side, allowing easy access for second-row passengers as well. The console can be moved over a distance of 190 mm and has storage space of 5.6 liters in the upper drawer and 12.6 liters in the lower drawer.
Luggage space
When the third row seatback is folded down, the trunk holds 1,323 liters of luggage. With all backrests up, there is room for 620 liters of luggage. Furthermore, the car has a small front luggage compartment, with a capacity of 88 liters in the rear-wheel-drive Ioniq 9 and 52 liters in the all-wheel-drive Ioniq 9.
Also a little sustainable?
The Ioniq 9 makes ample use of sustainable materials, including eco-friendly processed leather, yarn from recycled PET bottles, wool, biodegradable plastics and paint made from recycled tires. The car also features a curved panoramic display, floating dashboard, slim air vents and ambient lighting.
Dual-motion active air valve
Energy consumption is further reduced through efficient conduction of airflow under the car and reduced rolling resistance of the tires. For this purpose, Hyundai introduced a new system: the dual-motion active air flap (AAF). Other aerodynamic improvements include a 3D-shaped bottom plate, aerodynamic wheels and hidden antennas.
No roof antenna
A special feature of the Ioniq 9 is that it is the first Hyundai model without a visible roof antenna. The antenna’s functions are divided between the windshield (for GPS and satellite radio), the dashboard (for Connected Car Services) and the rear window (for FM/AM and digital media).
Wheels
There is a choice of 19-inch rims (standard), 20-inch rims and deluxe 21-inch rims, including a version with Calligraphy design. This allows customers to personalize the car to their liking. The SUV is available with a choice of sixteen colors, including new shades such as Celadon Gray Matte, Celadon Gray Metallic, Ionosphere Green Pearl, Sunset Brown Pearl and Cosmic Blue Pearl. For the interior, customers can choose from Obsidian Black and six unique combinations of two colors (for more details, check out the specifications at the bottom of the press release).
Power Electrical System (PE system).
The Ioniq 9 is built on the innovative E-GMP platform that houses Hyundai’s new Power Electrical System (PE system), with an optimized transmission ratio for driving in hilly terrain and the application of a two-stage converter for greater efficiency. The fully encapsulated PE system helps reduce engine noise, while also the application of improved acoustic laminated glass, triple seals in all areas and reinforced sheet metal in the A-pillar area further reduces road noise, wind and cabin vibration.
hefty battery!
The Ioniq 9’s PE system includes a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 110.3 kWh. The Ioniq 9 has an impressive driving range of 620 km (according to WLTP) and energy consumption of 194 Wh/km for the Long-Range rear-wheel-drive variant with 19-inch rims.
Hyundai IONIQ 9 fast charging
Using a 350 kW charger, the Ioniq 9 charges from 10 to 80 percent in just 24 minutes. The Ioniq 9’s E-GMP architecture is suitable for charging with both 400- and 800-volt systems, and its vehicle-to-load (V2L) feature allows the driver to use the stored energy in the high-voltage battery to power a variety of devices even when the vehicle is off.
Powertrain
The Long-Range rear-wheel-drive Ioniq 9 has a 160 kW (218 hp) electric motor on the rear axle. The all-wheel-drive version adds another 70 kW (95 hp) electric motor on the front axle. The all-wheel-drive Hyundai Ioniq 9 Performance has a 160 kW (218 hp) electric motor on both the front and rear axles.
Performance Hyundai Ioniq 9
The Performance version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds, while the all-wheel-drive Long-Range version requires 6.7 seconds and the rear-wheel-drive Long-Range version 9.4 seconds. For intermediate sprints, such as when overtaking other cars, the Performance model requires 3.4 seconds to accelerate from 80 to 120 km/h. The all-wheel-drive Long-Range Ioniq does this in 4.8 seconds and the rear-wheel-drive Long-Range version in 6.8 seconds.
Making life simple
Hyundai has applied numerous smart improvements in the Ioniq 9 to address common concerns that live among EV drivers, such as a refined EV route planner, improved battery consistency, an enhanced torque control display and comprehensive energy reporting.
The Ioniq 9 displays charging status via green indicators on the steering wheel so the driver always knows how much energy remains. The new SUV features Hyundai AI Assistant, an AI-driven voice recognition system that works like a virtual assistant at home and is activated at the touch of a button. The status of this system is also indicated by indicators.
Features on Demand (FoD) service.
Hyundai’s new Features on Demand (FoD) service is unique and allows Ioniq 9 customers to further personalize their vehicle with digital upgrades they can purchase online. The FoD service includes features such as dynamic lighting when opening the door, dynamic guidance light when closing the door, and options for streaming content including Amazon Music and Soundcloud. The Display Theme feature allows the display to be personalized with various themes.
Bluelink Connected Car Services
Bluelink Connected Car Services offers seamless connectivity via online voice recognition and a range of features for a more comfortable and enjoyable driving experience. This includes real-time assessments of road surface and driving behavior, among other things, and a “Driver Safety Index” based on driving patterns.
‘Over-The-Air’ (OTA) software updates
‘Over-The-Air’ (OTA) software updates allow the driver to update the map and media software in the Ioniq 9 without going to the dealer. The driver receives the latest enhancements as soon as they become available. The car is equipped with a Digital Key function that uses Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, which guarantees a high level of security. Smartphone charging is wireless, on a rubber charging pad to prevent devices from sliding and equipped with integrated cooling to prevent overheating.
100W USB-C ports
The Ioniq 9 has 100W USB-C ports for occupants in the front seats and the second and third rows of seats. Unlike traditional USB ports that rely on a 12V battery, the Ioniq 9 draws power directly from the high-voltage battery ensuring uninterrupted use. This innovative concept further extends the capabilities of Hyundai’s Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature. The V2L outlet in the luggage compartment allows, with the EV’s battery, to power and charge electrical devices and equipment through a standard outlet.
The Ioniq 9’s climate system is equipped with a special feature optimized for leisure activities, such as car camping. This system provides air conditioning for rear-seat passengers and reduces unnecessary power consumption by independently controlling the front and rear climate zones.
UV-C air purification system
The new three-row electric SUV is also equipped with a UV-C air cleaning system that has a sterilization function for disinfecting bacteria on cell phones and wallets, for example. This feature was developed to meet the needs of customers who value health and hygiene in their cars.
Interior Features
Behind the wheel of the new Ioniq 9, the driver looks out onto an elegant, curved panoramic screen that includes a 12-inch digital instrument panel and a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen. The standard in-car audio system has eight speakers. Optional is a premium Bose audio system with 14 speakers that supports 5.1-channel surround sound and offers wireless updates and advanced Bose features. The system also includes e-Active Sound Design (e-ASD), which emits the virtual driving sound of an EV through the car’s audio system.

The Ioniq 9 is also equipped with a Terrain Traction Control System for unpaved terrain and an Auto Terrain Mode that uses AI to recognize the type of road surface and select the optimal driving mode.
Suspension
The suspension is designed specifically for an all-electric SUV, with a MacPherson front suspension and a multilink axle at the rear. The system includes self-adjusting dampers for greater comfort and hydro bushings to reduce vibration during driving.
Towing weight braked
In trailer mode, the car automatically detects the weight of the trailer and adjusts the estimated range accordingly. This feature maintains a fixed 50:50 engine torque distribution between the front and rear wheels for optimal performance. In Europe, the Ioniq 9 is allowed to tow a trailer up to 2,500 kg.
Digital side mirrors
In some markets, digital exterior mirrors are replacing traditional mirrors. These show side and rear visibility through a 7-inch OLED screen. This system offers a zoom-out function for reversing, guidelines for maneuvering and a helpline for changing lanes. In addition to good rear visibility, the digital side mirrors also improve the car’s aerodynamics.
Shhh, be quiet!
The IONIQ 9 is designed to minimize rolling noise. The use of sound-absorbing tires minimizes tire resonance, while body reinforcements give the car more rigidity and reduce the low-frequency hum that can occur on unpaved roads. Furthermore, the car features an Active Noise Control-Road (ANC-R) system that further filters road noise.
