In 2011, the Volkswagen group presented a new series of city cars. The group had played a minor role in that segment in recent years, but the new triplets had to change that. Volkswagen and Skoda marketed the car as the Up and Citigo respectively, at SEAT the car is called Mii. The three cars are almost identical, but will have their own branded front and rear lights.

Success number
For Volkswagen, the Up was the successor to the Fox, a city car that was developed by the Brazilian division of the brand in Europe, which was nowhere near the hoped-for success. How different the Up managed to present: together with brothers Citigo and Mii, the model is still high in the sales lists and the model can be seen on the road.
Many variants
Shortly after the unveiling of the car, Volkswagen presented a whole range of versions for the Up, albeit in concept form. Some of these made it to the production stage, such as the electrically powered e-Up, minivan Cargo-Up and the GT Up dried up as the Up GTI. However, other concept versions, especially ideas for body styles, did not progress beyond the concept phase. The slightly more spacious Space Up, the exuberant Buggy Up and the larger hybrid Up Lite never made it to the production stage.
