Electric station wagon

Station wagon enthusiasts eager to switch to electric driving are getting more and more choices. Currently, only MG – with the MG 5 – and Porsche – the Taycan Sport Turismo – offer an estate with an electric powertrain, but more electric models with a continuous roofline and extra luggage space are rapidly arriving. Volkswagen will introduce the ID.7 later this year Tourer and this year the Opel Astra Electric Sports Tourer and Peugeot e-308 SW will also hit the road.

Nio ET5 Touring

Starting in October, China’s Nio will have an electric station in the showroom: the ET5 Touring. The station has a rear legroom of 895 mm and rear headroom increased by 17 mm compared to the sedan. When the rear seats are fully folded down, a total luggage space of 1,300 liters is created. When upright, 450 liters remain – with another 42 liters under the floor. The towing weight is 1,400 kilograms.

Smart station

The ET5 Touring is packed with thoughtful details, according to the brand, such as two magnetic luggage compartment straps for attaching bags, integrated hooks in the tailgate from which a wetsuit can be hung, heated windshield wipers, a dedicated camping mode and a portable flashlight attached in the luggage compartment.

Panoramic roof

Passengers can enjoy extra sunshine thanks to a 1.32-meter-long panoramic glass roof. It features an intelligent dimming option, providing protection from up to 99.99 percent of harmful UV rays and 80 percent insulation from heat. The ET5 Touring comes standard with black roof rails and there is a choice of ten air-inspired body colors, four earth-themed interior tones and four stylish 19- or 20-inch rim designs.

Range

Technically, the Touring is similar to the sedan version. So there are two battery variants – 75 kWh and 100 kWh – good for a respective range of 435 and 560 kilometers. Power – regardless of the battery variant – comes to 490 hp thanks to two electric motors.

In the Netherlands, the consumer recommended price for the ET5 Touring starts at 51,900 euros in combination with Nio’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model a 169 euros (75 kWh) or 289 euros (100 kWh) per month. Including battery, Nio is asking a minimum of 63,900 euros for the electric station. As with all the brand’s other models, the battery can be swapped in less than five minutes through the network of Power Swap Stations.
