Hyundai IONIQ 6 for the first time in the Netherlands! – Sneak Preview VIDEO

September 8, 2022

E-GMP

The IONIQ 6 is the second model under Hyundai’s new IONIQ sublabel. The IONIQ 5 preceded the “six. The model with the number ‘5’ looks nice and retro. This ‘6’ is overtly more futuristic in design. More rounded shapes were used. Thus, the models each have their own character. Both models are built on Hyundai’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).

With a length of 4,855 mm combined with a width of 1,880 mm and a height of 1,495 mm, the IONIQ 6 is really not a small car. The extremely long wheelbase comes out to 2,950 mm.

IONIQ 6: Electrified Streamliner

Hyundai speaks of the IONIQ 6 as a true Electrified Streamliner given its teardrop design. The car is very aerodynamically designed to maximize its driving range. Because less drag results in a greater driving range. The IONIQ 6’s air resistance coefficient is even more favorable than that of a Mercedes-Benz EQE: 0.21 cW for the South Korean versus 0.22 cW for the German.

To further improve aerodynamics, Hyundai also provides side cameras that replace the usual glass mirrors. On the inside of both front doors, Hyundai then mounts color displays. Nice for the enthusiasts, but nothing wrong with mirrors either of course.

Range

So if this Hyundai IONIQ 6 really is that efficient, then of course you should see that reflected in the range figures, right? Let’s look at the numbers. The estimated range of the version with 77.4 kWh battery, 229 hp, rear-wheel drive and 18-inch wheels comes to 610 kilometers according to the WLTP test standard. The same battery, but with AWD powertrain and 325 hp/605 Nm, gets you 570 kilometers (WLTP).

Also with smaller battery

In the version with 53 kWh battery pack, the Hyundai IONIQ 6 is powered by an electric motor on the rear axle that produces 111 kW (151 hp) of power. The range of this variant is not yet known. However, Hyundai does specify a WLTP consumption of less than 14 kWh. That amounts to about 380 kilometers. A faster N trim of the IONIQ 6 will follow at a later stage.

Hyundai IONIQ 6 charging

Fast charging is no problem thanks to the E-GMP architecture. With a 350 kW charger, the IONIQ 6 can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes. The V2L (vehicle-to-load) feature allows customers to charge all kinds of electrical devices – ideal when camping, for outdoor equipment, on-site chores or as a power supply during a power outage. V2L can be used via a separately supplied adapter in the charging socket on the outside of the car. There is a second charging port under the rear seat for charging laptops, smartphones and other devices.

Environmentally friendly materials

Then there’s the interior of the Hyundai IONIQ 6. This is very similar in design to the interior of the IONIQ 5. Thanks to the generous wheelbase, there is also plenty of room on board. Of particular note is the mix of eco-friendly materials. Four examples…

  1. The fabric of the chairs is made from recycled PET bottles.
  2. The dashboard and headliner of the IONIQ 6 contains sustainable materials extracted from sugarcane.
  3. The door trim is treated with a bio-polyurethane-reinforced paint that contains oil extracted from plants, which helps improve air quality in our factories and reduces CO2 emissions in the manufacturing process.
  4. The rug is made with nylon yarns made from recycled fishing nets from ocean waste.

Relaxation Comfort Seats

The front seats – optional Relaxation Comfort Seats with lounge function – are about 30 percent thinner than the seats in conventional cars, so occupants experience more freedom of movement. Inside are five USB ports, four type-C and one type-A. You can also charge a smartphone wirelessly. Two 12.3-inch TFT LCD displays adorn the dashboard. Updating the infotainment system can simply be done over the air.

Mood lighting

A nice touch is the Dual Color Ambient Lighting system. There is a choice of 64 colors and six two-color themes. Also notable: on the steering wheel are Interactive Pixel Lights. These provide information on driving mode, voice recognition and charging status, among other things.

Colors Hyundai IONIQ 6

The Hyundai IONIQ 6, by the way, can be personalized extensively. Several colors are available, namely Abyss Black Pearl, Transmission Blue Pearl, Ultimate Red Metallic, Curated Silver Metallic, Nocturne Grey Metallic, Nocturne Grey Matte, Byte Blue Pearl, Gravity Gold Matte, Serenity White Pearl, Biophilic Blue Pearl and Digital Green Pearl. For the interior, there is a choice of four colors: dark gray combined with light gray, dark olive green with light gray, black with light brown and all black.

Production of the IONIQ 6 is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2022. The date of the Dutch market launch will be announced later.
