At the end of 2007, the popular X5 was joined by a new family member: the X6. That was in fact the coupé version of the X5. The car caused mixed reactions from the public with its design. A coupe version of an SUV, that doesn’t really look like it. On the other hand, the car proved to be quite popular especially in the US and Asia, so several manufacturers came up with such a car. The X6 can therefore be seen as the inventor of the coupé SUV segment.

M-firsts
BMW proved that SUVs can also be sporty in 2009 with the introduction of the X5 M. Coupé brother X6 also got an M version. Both cars had multiple firsts for the M division. For the first time, an M-model had four-wheel drive and an automatic transmission, and there was never before a crossover-like one that wore an M badge.
Next chapters
In 2014, the X6 story got a second chapter with the introduction of the current generation. The car is an evolution of its predecessor, but this time it took over more design traits from the X5. The front is thus largely the same. Another X6 M appeared, one of the fastest SUVs out there. The second generation had a relatively short career, because in 2019 a completely new third generation was presented, which is again largely identical to the X5.
