All about the new MG3 Hybrid+
Powertrain MG3 Hybrid+
The MG3 has a larger battery and a more powerful electric motor compared to other hybrids in the B-segment. It is a conventional hybrid, so not a plug-in hybrid. The five core elements of the new Hybrid+ system are the engine, transmission, battery, electric motor and generator. The MG3 Hybrid+ features a 75 kW (102 hp) four-cylinder 1.5-liter gasoline engine with Atkinson cycle, a 100 kW (136 hp) electric motor and a separate generator.
System Power
The MG3 Hybrid+ produces a combined power output of 143 kW (194 hp) and has a fuel consumption of 4.4 l/100 km (WLTP) and average CO2 emissions of 100 g/km (WLTP). The battery has a capacity of 1.83 kWh. Accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 8.0 seconds, the MG3 is the fastest accelerating hybrid in the B-segment. Acceleration from 80-120 km/h takes just 5.0 seconds. The maximum speed in electric-only mode is 80 km/h.
Different driving modes
The MG3 Hybrid+ selects fully automatically from the following driving modes:
- EV: fully electric driving as long as the battery is charged
- Series: the combustion engine is connected to the generator that drives the electric motor
- Series and Charge: The Series mode in which the battery is recharged at low loads
- Drive and Charge: The motor drives the wheels and also charges the battery through the generator
- Parallel: Both the motor and electric motor drive the wheels
Special transmission
The MG3 Hybrid+ has a special three-speed automatic transmission. Drivers can customize the MG3’s responsiveness with a choice of three driving modes: Eco, Standard and Sport. Eco mode is calibrated to minimize fuel consumption and provide metered throttle response, while Standard mode offers a mix between economy and performance. Sport mode is the most alert driving mode.
Versions MG3 Hybrid+
The MG3 Hybrid+ will be available in Europe in three different trims: Standard, Comfort and Luxury. A prominent feature for all versions is the dual-screen cockpit, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch central infotainment screen. The engineers at MG paid a lot of attention to the graphics and responsiveness of the screens. The array of piano key switches on the center console maximizes safety and ease of operation while driving.
Equipment
Satellite navigation and smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay/Android Auto is standard on all trims. MG iSMART offers connectivity levels and features to MG3 drivers previously associated with premium models. Other highlights of standard equipment include air conditioning, an audio system with six speakers and Bluetooth connectivity, four USB ports, rear parking sensors and a parking camera.
Extra luxury
The more richly equipped versions include standard features such as leather upholstery, keyless entry, heated front seats, steering wheel heating and a 360-degree camera. The MG3 is also equipped with the latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Safety is enhanced thanks to MG Pilot technology, including Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning and Traffic Jam Assist.
Personalize
Customers can personalize their MG3 with various options including alloy wheels and LED headlights. It is available in Europe in seven different colors: Pebble Black, Dover White, Cosmic Silver, Pastel Yellow, Diamond Red, Hampstead Grey and Como Blue.
Information on Dutch pricing, availability and specifications of the MG3 Hybrid+ will be announced ahead of its introduction. The seven-year or 150,000-mile warranty also applies to this new compact MG.
