POAH! BMW 3.0 CSL Homage Tased

June 28, 2022

CEO posts snapshots on Insta

None other than Dutchman Frank van Meel – the CEO of BMW M – posted photos of the Homage on his own Instagram on Monday. Given the quality of the photos, it was anything but an accident that the photos were thrown into the world. Of course, all in the hopes that it will get us excited – and secretly, we do….

Batmobile

The car is an homage to the 3.0 CSL, a phenomenal machine that caused a furore in the European Touring Car Championship in the 1970s. The flared wheel arches and thick spoilers earned the car the nickname “the Batmobile,” and with the fat 3.0-liter six-cylinder gasoline engine, the car was almost unbeatable. The car symbolizes the beginning of BMW M.

Modern interpretation

Not surprisingly, BMW M is making a modern interpretation of the Batmobile in the year of its 50th anniversary. Many features of the old model can therefore be seen in the photos shared by the CEO. The wide wheel arches, hefty spoiler on the tailgate and one above the rear window. But also the somewhat “narrow” kidneys at the front seem to be a reference to the legendary model.

M4 CSL as a basis

It seems that the just presented BMW M4 CSL (550 hp) is the basis for the 3.0 CSL Homage. Rumors are that this 3.0 CSL Hommage does get more power. Figures of above 600 hp are circulating on the internet. Unlike the M4 CSL, which is only available with an automatic, this Homage will probably get a six-speed manual transmission, judging by the sticker that reads ‘6MT FTW’. We’d also like to believe the “Insanely epic” sticker.

Guesswork

But for now, then, it remains wet work as far as the Homage is concerned. It is not yet clear when it will come, but probably this year. What it should cost is also still unclear, though amounts of 600,000 to 700,000 euros are mentioned. Yikes!

Incidentally, it’s not the first time BMW has come up with an homage to the 3.0 CSL. In fact, in 2015 BMW presented a concept car of the 3.0 CSL Hommage and in 2018 a more extreme version of it, the 3.0 CSL Hommage R.
